Is it possible I have GD in the first trimester?!

Hi all in my first pregnancy during the 28 week glucose test I failed miserably and the condition quickly become out of control and I needed metformin and insulin. Second pregnancy by the time I was diagnosed I was 38 weeks and 39 weeks I was induced Third time although I didn’t get diagnosed officially as my numbers were ‘borderline’ I did have polyhydramnios which indicates it was going that way. I’m 10 weeks pregnant with my 4th and experiencing extreme thirst, dry mouth etc I pretty much tick all nhs symptoms boxes so because I’m worried I took my blood sugar 1 hr after eating a salad it was 7.7. How hard is it going to be to get a glucose test done early? I am SO scared of getting type 2 after after pregnancy but mostly terrified of complications for my baby. I’m also mixed Asian and have a high bmi so that and having had GD previously means I’m pretty high risk of getting it again right?

If you poked your finger then you could go ahead and start testing that now. And see what it shows. Did you get tested after pregnancy to see if you had diabetes not pregnant

Were you just watching what you ate last time or were you also on medication. If it was medication then I’d definitely talk to your doctor for and ask for a test now because of all your symptoms and previous pregnancies and how bad it was

I don’t believe I did have one after pregnancy. But no other than my first pregnancy I’ve always been diet controlled for the other two. I’ve looked at my blood test results from my booking appointment but I can’t see anything to do with blood sugar so I assume it won’t be checked until it’s offered to me 16 weeks. I’ll see if I can get a dr to request it for me

Just to add if you ate a salad and your blood sugar was high, chances are it wasn’t the salad. More likely that you haven’t eaten enough so your body has released glucose into your bloodstream and your sugar has spiked

I’d just start eating how you normally would if you did have GD and try to start early. But also try to get that appointment. I’d also just continue to check your blood sugar levels after an hour and two hours and keep track of it for the test but also to see if anything changes when you eat things

@Gabrielle Thank you. My fasting number was high at 6.0 this morning I’m going to monitor for a few days then take the readings to my midwife and see if she thinks I can get the glucose test done early. If not I know I’ll be offered one at 16 weeks so 6 weeks to wait

Gotcha. If you do end up having it I would definitely get tested again after having your baby. WHat i found out is you are supposed to get your blood tested after birth by like. A few weeks to see if you still have it. I think I had GD with my son but don’t think it showed up till later. Because of how big he was and his sugar levels. But we never tested at the end of pregnancy and we never tested after so I have no idea if I did. But I found out from other people that you’re supposed to be tested again because now you have a higher chance at getting diabetes after. And if you’ve had it every time then it’s even more likely
