Sterilising bottles

Guys honest answers, when did we stop sterilising bottles 🥲 I’m 6 months in and I’m over it now, this kid licks everything 😂I only wash his water bottle and bowl/cutlery in hot soapy water so surely bottles will be fine to do the same? Or not 🙈don’t judge 😂

Does your baby have formula or breast milk? X

Both x

Sterilising is to protect against bacteria in the milk not against general dirt. You need to continue doing it as long as baby is on formula.

If babies still drinking formula, you need to be sterilising bottles. X

The formula is the reason it needs sterilizing

Looks like I’m sticking it out then 😂 thank you x

@Lauren could you explain why? Bacteria found in formula should be killed by adding boiling water? So I don’t get why the bottle should be sterilised after 6 months if they’re washed properly, not trying to be a dick just genuinely don’t understand

You’ve got a Blimmin good point there!! 🤔

@Paige yes bacteria in the formula powder is killed by the boiling water when you make the bottle. But any residue that’s left in the bottle after baby has finished with it can grow harmful bacteria, rinsing and washing isn’t always enough. Best to know the formula is going into a clean and sterile bottle before you then sterilise the powder as well.

Thank you for explaining haha @N 💞 but yeah exactly that!

It’s the bacteria in the milk and that’s why you need to sterilise the bottles x

U haven't sterilised bottles for at least a month now and my baby is almost 1! I just wash thoroughly with hot soapy water, that's more than adequate!

We stopped at 1 with my little girl and will stop with 1 with my little boys We’ve done it for 2 years because of the age gap and I cannot wait to not have to sterilise them 🤣

I am confused. The instructions say to use cooled down pre-boiled water so that’s not as hot anymore, will it still kill bacteria?
