Foods

What is everyone feeding their babies? Have you started introducing foods (if so, what), are they eating meals or still breastmilk/formula only? I’ve read stuff about how their teeth coming in plays a factor in how ready they are, among other things. Thanks ladies!!

My son has been BLW since 6mo. 4 teeth came in at 7mo and ever since his teeth have completely emerged I swear feeding him has become easier cause he actually bites bits of food off now. I’m less paranoid so he eats anything and everything. But even before he had teeth he was doing well with solids so it doesn’t really matter if they have teeth or not yet. I just feed him what I’m eating but make it safe for him. Fruits, veggies, meat etc. I have a list in my phone on what he’s tried. Lastnight he had dumplings for the first time and he loved them. He still has a bottle every 3-4 hours (we are formula as of the past month) so his milk intake isn’t affected and he has 1-3 meals a day depending on how busy we are. It definitely helps him sleep through the more he eats in the day though.

Gave him two small meals a day since 6 months. Now we do two larger meals. Amount of milk/bottles stays the same. I feed him the bottle about half an hour before a meal to prioritize that.

My son started on purées but quickly started eating solids. We’ve done roughly 75 different exposures so far! Beans, pasta and sauce, fruits are easy favs of his. Also LOVED avocado, peanut butter and butternut squash. Look up BLW for appropriate sizes/shapes to offer food in and know that gagging is normal and is baby learning limits.

They should be getting most of their nutrition from breastmilk/formula til 1 year. Eating right now is just to help them adjust to a variety of tastes and textures. The Solid Starts app/website will give you any food you can think of and how you should serve it based on age. Game changer!

@Francy Thank you!!! Yes, I am working on how to go about letting my son explore textures and get exposure to different tastes and allergens. He gets breastmilk and isn’t super interested in food although he has tried a little bit of whipped bone marrow, banana and blueberry breastmilk popsicles. He has two bottom teeth and 1 top tooth, with the other top one coming in soon.

@Lexi yeah, no worries! Food before 1 is just for fun, so don’t stress over it! :)

@Francy I have read this, and even about the 4 front teeth being just “milk teeth” so I haven’t been rushing but I want to make sure I’m giving enough exposure as well. Thanks for your input, I appreciate it! Some recommendations or guidelines that can be found are all over the place so I had to put a feeler out in the collective :)
