BLW & Puree Weaning

We started weaning yesterday, I just did some puréed broccoli which she gagged at first but then seemed to really enjoy it. I really want to do a combi approach with some puree and finger food but I’m so terrified of choking! Anyone doing combi or BLW how are you getting on and can you put my mind at ease because I really want her to explore with finger food thank you

We did this approach first time (now 2 year old). We actually found more gagging on purées and none on finger foods! Maybe due to purées sticking to throat etc who knows. He preferred finger foods and we never had a proper chocking incident. We’ll be doing combi approach again

My little boy seems to be gagging with puree and finger food! He doesn’t seem to be enjoying food at all

Gagging is totally normal they have a really sensitive gag relex to help prevent choking incidents . Weve gone straight in with BLw and offered avocado, raspberries and natural yogurt for breakfast yesterday, and beans on toast for lunch today 😁 the solid starts app is great for seeing how to prepare the food for each age/ stage and I did a Paediatric first aid course incase of choking x

This video (and info in caption) from Solid Starts may put your mind at ease and I definitely recommend also giving the page a follow x https://www.instagram.com/reel/DJuOREOudyu/?igsh=ZGQwOWY3bDZ3NTB2

We’re just doing solids as she refuses purées and gags at them a lot. It does fill me with a lot of anxiety but so far it’s going well x

Thanks everyone, I’ve got the solid starts app just need to give it a go I think 😬

So far we have done mostly puree but when I give her food she can hold she absolutely loves it all and has only refused pureed foods. She has had banana sticks, strawberry chunks, steamed carrot and some shop-bought finger foods. She has had all those flavours and loads more in puree. We are on holiday next week so will do more baby lead after that

You can do a first aid course where they tell you about chocking vs gagging and what to do. This may out your mind at ease.
