My toddler didn't want to hug me today 😭. Have you been here and is it just a phase?

We have a newborn at home so despite my best efforts I'm spending less time with him. He was hugging his dad all evening (which I'm grateful for, that they are close). He used to hug me 50x per day but didn't want to today. I left the room so he wouldn't see me cry (I'm 8 weeks postpartum and cry quite easily still).

He's most likely acting out a little bit as he realises and tries to come to terms with not having mom all to himsef anymore and is getting more attention and time from dad so he's drawn more to his dad. We can't help that this happens it just does and it really really sucks. But he will most likely keep getting closer and closer to his dad with your attention being mostly on your newborn but as your newborn gets older and you can give your oldest more attention, hopefully he will start to get as close to you again. My oldest went through this too and grew much closer to his dad as well. Still is. It hurts. We just need to keep doing our best and showing them we love them when they do allow us to. Hold him a little tighter next time you get to hug him. x

@Vee Thank you, that really, really helps ♡

Agree with Vee he's probably just adjusting to the new dynamic but no fun when you're PP and hormonal! I'm due in 3 weeks and recently my son has been saying 'I don't want a hug today mummy' but will hug his dad and I'll say okay no problem (while dying inside 💔🤣) then later on he usually comes back saying I do want a hug.
