Contraception - where to start in UK?

Im thinking of trying contraception as I just had a 2nd baby and would want to protect myself for a while now until I am ready maybe for the third. However I only ever used condoms and fertility calendar. How do I start and decide on what type to choose and where do I get it done?

My GP practice administers contraceptives such as coils and implants etc. I’ve had the mirena coil for about 9 years before having it removed to try to conceive. Now that I’ve had my baby, I’m choosing not to have anything with hormones in so I’m opting for the copper coil.

@Jasmine would you mind me asking why you wouldn’t go with hormonal contraceptives?

Thanks for the info 🙏🏻

As I look back over the period of time I’ve been on the mirena, I feel as though there’s a lot of things I can say were because of the mirena coil. - Excessive weight gain (I had the coil removed and started to lose weight quite easily) - hair loss - large boils on my chin/neck, armpits and groin - very emotional. - high anxiety I believe that the added progesterone aided these side effects. When I became pregnant and obviously my oestrogen levels took over, I felt quite good - I even lost 11kg from the start to the end of my pregnancy. This is obviously all my own opinions etc
