Experience in UK on NHS

Hi, I am having my second IVF round with NHS and it’s very different to the first round I did privately. The first round yielded 20 eggs (none left now sadly) but the protocol seemed fine. This time it’s one drug only (Meriofert), once a day and it’s SO HARD to administer (mixing with different vials and needles). Also supposed to have scans on days 5 or 6 but because these are the weekend, the NHS is closed so I can’t have them. Has anyone else experienced anything like this… meriofert, missed weekend scans etc. looking for guidance or reassurances thanks.

The meriofert does seem complicated at the beginning but you soon get used to it and I allowed a bit of time setting it up to begin with. You will probably also be put on another injection down the line but I can’t quite remember when. If your due to have a scan on the weekend I would have thought they would do them on the Friday or Monday?

Yes I had Meriofert too and it was my only round so I didn’t know any different. I think you soon get used to it. Also had delayed scans because of the weekend thing but they did reassure me it wouldn’t affect my treatment and luckily it didn’t seem to :)

Ahhh that reassuring, thank you!!

Also, when you start the drugs on day //3 of your cycle, are you supposed to keep bleeding?

I think a lot depends on the clinic. We're NHS but our clinic does both NHS and private and they tend to use the same approach from what I've seen. I was put on 150iu Meriofert and 150iu Ovaleap after being told I'd use Ovaleap only but then I figured it's because the NHS only covers Meriofert up to 300iu (I had to pay for part of the Ovaleap otherwise). My clinic do retrieval/transfers on certain days and I never had to go in on weekends so I think it's normal that they adjust the treatment plan based on their schedule. For the bleeding, I was on long protocol, but I'd give them a call to make sure?

Thanks so much
