Reception issues

So my 4 year old started reception Wednesday and i had a phone call today after school to suggest he has half days from now in as he’s struggling in the afternoon thats it but nobody has mentioned anything when I’ve picked him up before. Hes been in nursery since he was 10 months old as i work full time and he’s quite a hyperactive boy and I’ve questioned whether he’s got adhd with the nurseries senco in the past but kind of dismissed it he’s been on play plans for his behaviour as he can get quite over stimulated to the point he hits his head the nursery didn’t really help as they said because he’s under 5 they have limited resources. Has anyone else dealt with this ? What could i do ? I don’t have a clue what to do about work i work long days and was counting on using the afterschool clubs just feel really stressed and hopeless as i don’t know how to help him

So firstly I would ask them what it is specifically he is struggling with. If they have concerns etc. if the school are noticing traits of ADHD etc they can put a referral in or your GP. don’t be fobbed off by them saying because he is under 5. Try and see if they think it work better if he was in a class with less children etc. it seems that they are being very quick to do nothing. I am guessing it’s been less than a week and they are already suggesting this. They need to help ur son before they suggest reduced hours because they will still get funded for him regardless of the hours he does and also the impact it will have on your work life. They seem very quick to be brushing him off

Im going to ask them Monday morning as they phoned me as i was driving home so took me by surprise the teacher has said he’s been brill for the 3 days he’s been there apart from a wobble yesterday where he refused to sit on the carpet with the other children

Yeah I wouldn’t say that’s enough to put him on reduced hours. Ask them loads of questions and always ask what they are going to do to support you and ur son. Good luck

Early years teacher here. Odd suggestion for reduced hours this early on. More than likely they need a plan in place for him to have another space to go to when overstimulated or just a walk about with a member of staff. I have had all kinds of behaviours in my classrooms over the years and never suggested reduced timetables and I’ve had extreme stuff (kids actively violent towards me and others) and we just found other provisions for them. Here if youd liked I speak further x

Hes on a reduced time table 12 last week and 12.10 this week spoke with the school senco shes got information from the nursery aswel she said the issues were he got quite angry in t he afternoons not listening wanting to do other things to what the teacher was asking and was swearing they have asked for my to attend the gp don’t exactly know what for as when i asked if she thinks its adhd/ autism she never gave me an answer
