If you've already explained but she doesn't quite get it, show her pictures. Just remember toddlers need repetition to process so you need to tell her about it every day. That's normal.
I’d show her photos and explain a few times about weather. Use it as a learning moment to explain how sometimes things happen and it’s okay because no one was hurt and we will make it bigger and stronger.
Thanks ladies! I ended up showing her the videos of the damage this morning and she said "aww we need to fix it" and I told her that we can't, and then I showed her the inside and she said "we need to vacuum in there!" 😅 and afterwards she said "the building is sad because people can't hang out there all day 🥺" and she pouted, and I asked, "are you sad?" And she said "no, I was just pretending" 🤣
That’s such a sweet reply of “we need to vacuum”! Give her a few more days till the weather settles and maybe arrange a bit community day. Give the children little safe tasks like handing out towels, mopping. Get them involved in the recovery so they feel like they can help and everything is okay xx
It's part of life and you can explain what happened in general. That sometimes a bad storm comes and breaks buildings. But that it's ok, because the weather man tells parents that it's coming, and everyone evacuated. And then once the storm is over, they will fix it up again.
