Travel Tips

Hi Mamas We will be traveling for the holidays via plane. I know I hear about car seats getting thrown around at the airport. Anyone that’s experienced smooth travel with an infant (equipment and all) please share your tips. So you have any favorite items to share? TIA

We went to Texas in May. Our car seat travelled fine. You can also check to see if it's compatible with the airline. We had a bottle for take off and landing.

I'll be flying Sunday at 8am. 1h30m flight. I'm planning to have a bottle ready and nurse if needed. I'm traveling with a 10 week old Otherwise I'll report back once landed lol

I'll also be traveling at Christmas so this is the trial run

Ours was safe when we travelled in July. We had a travel protection bag to give a little more peace of mind. What car seat do you have? It might be worth the ~$40

We traveled with 2 in car seats.. they were roughly 18mos and 3. We were able to use our double stroller to push the car seats and 3yo through the airports, I wore the 18mo in an Ergo carrier. They did better on the plane being strapped into their familiar car seats.. we drive long distances sometimes and they just don't even question the car seat. We're now an almost 5yo, a 2.5yo and a 7mo.. and would possibly check our car seats because loading 2 on the plane by myself was HARD.. I don't think I could survive 3.

*you can "gate check" the infant seat/bucket seat with your stroller and have baby in your lap/arms/carrier as well. We did that a few times smoothly enough.

First time I traveled w/my son he was 4 months on a 20hr international flight on my own (hubby joined us later). We have since done 30+ flights w/our kids (3 & 1) w/minimal issues. Tips: 1- Doona if you can! Can be used on the flight if you buy baby a seat & helpful during longer flights. Plus you always have a stroller & carseat with you & can catch Ubers, taxis etc. without lugging around a separate car seat & stroller. Very convenient if you won’t have a dedicated vehicle. 2- ALWAYS bag baby equipment when checking in/gate checking! 3- Backpacks-Instead of carryons, I use a bigger backpack (40L +) when traveling w/my kids. Holds all our stuff & both hands are free for stroller/carry child etc. Plus easier to open and get to stuff than a suitcase. 4- travel diaper changing mat AND disposable changing pads. 5-bottle/snacks at takeoff & landing to prevent ear pressure. 6- Carry extras of everything in case of delays/missed flights. Just prepare well and you'll be fine. Good luck!

I flew yesterday with a 10 week old. I had a great experience. Checked in and dropped my carry-on with checked bags. I got 2 tags for the car seat and stroller. Baby had to come out of the carseat for security, where they pat down and swab the stroller. Walked through no issues with 3 oz of breastmilk. I was able to bring the stroller right to the gate. Took baby out and separated the carseat and collapsed stroller, and when I got off the plane, both carseat and stroller were waiting for me. I liked having both in case baby wanted out of the carrier. My baby slept the whole flight 1h30m Only thing I wish I had a larger seat flying just the two of us. I thought I had paid for one, but with flair, it's not that much bigger. Should get the very front row or emergency exit. Make sure to strap to you first, then put on a diper bag. I wasn't thinking and when I got on the plane I had to take the carrier off to get the backpack off which made getting the carrier back gard Otherwise it was a great experience

@Amie I have to look into this..we have a Graco
