BF poop frequency?

My LG is 6 weeks old today. Apart from one occasion she’s always pooped a couple of times a day. It’s now been almost 72 hours since she last had a poo. Lots of wet nappies, feeding as usual and not in any pain or discomfort. We had some weight gain issues when she was firstborn so ended up on a feeding plan. She’s now exclusively breastfed apart from 2 bottles a day (one is a mix of expressed milk and formula the other is formula) and has been gaining weight well at her last weight check (5 days ago). The hospital have left me very anxious from when we were there in the beginning that a lack of poo meant she wasn’t getting enough milk. I spoke to the GP this morning who wasn’t overly concerned and said she’ll probably poop sometime soon. Told us to monitor her for the next two days and has prescribed some laxatives for if she still has hadn’t had a poop (I’d really like to avoid this). Anyone else’s little one poop infrequently?

Hey! I think the guidelines are for breastfed babies is that after 4-6weeks old they can go upto 15 days without pooing! Then they come through with a massive explosion haha. My son is doing the exact same thing now it’s been nearly 1 week no poo, but still drinking as normal, having wet nappies and not in any discomfort. See how she goes you might be met with a poonami soon! If not you can always contact your gp again but I’m sure everything will be ok ❤️

I had this think we got to 5 days with no poop and then we got 5 days worth at once😅 our girl was the same, no pain or any signs of being uncomfortable and was still passing loads of wind but just no poops and we asked health visitor and said it’s usually not a concern unless it’s been 7+ days and they seem in pain. Our little one now seems to poop every day some days then goes a little period of a couple of days without pooping again so it seems pretty normal and she’s also exclusively BF 💗

Also the day she did poop I ate something a bit spicier than usually so not sure if this is what helped or if it’s worth having a go, it wasn’t super spicy it was just some samosas my gran had made and then that night little one managed a poop x

Ours is exactly like this! The only thing we have found to work after the HV advise was giving him a little bit of boiled cooled water from a bottle - gets everything going

My LO had one poo in 48 hour period and plenty of wet nappies and lots of farting and then next thing you know did two massive poos. My GP said his child didn’t poo for 3 weeks and did a massive poo explosion.

My first went only about every 10-14 days for about 3-4 months. His poos weren't even that huge. Shows how perfect breast milk is for babies that there is so little waste.

Thanks everyone! It’s really reassuring to hear other people are/have been in a similar position. If we hadn’t had such a wobbly start with weight gain, I don’t think I’d be feeling as anxious as I do x

She pooped! Surprisingly not as massive as I thought it would be……guess it just shows how little waste product there is with breastmilk xx
