Vaccinations

So I don’t give my toddler the Covid or flu vaccine. I don’t get the flu vaccine for myself and I got the Covid once when I was mandated for my job in the medical field. My kids are mandated to have vaccines for daycare but the flu and Covid are not Mandatory. The pediatricians office has had me sign refusal paperwork before for not giving my toddler the flu and Covid vaccine, so when I went for my 4 month olds wellness check and vaccine that same pediatrician was talking to me About how they grouped in the rsv vaccine in now. I assumed he meant in the normal Vaccines she gets for daycare. However he walked out of the room and I heard him say to a nurse or medical assistant “she said yes to the rsv vaccine” And I was confused. So the medical assistant came in and had the normal two shots in syringes and one oral vaccine. She had me signed paperwork and then she said oh wait I have to go get the RSV one since we’re getting that. And I said I’m sorry I’m confused. I thought that was included in these vaccines, that’s the way it was portrayed me from the pediatrician, and she said no it’s actually noon as a separate shot. And I got pretty upset because my baby was already tired and hungry and sleeping on me and I have to wake her up and give her another shot on top of it. It made me very uncomfortable, but I felt blindsided and like I wasn’t allowed to say no at that point. So I gave her the vaccine along with her other ones. She had a low-grade fever for about a day. I gave her Tylenol once. She’s been fine at daycare in the evening. She has been so miserable, her poop is different, she’s constantly cranky, hard to get to eat, definitely not herself. I figured it would pass in a few days, but it’s been about five days now and it’s only gotten worse, she seems completely miserable, she wants to sleep 24 seven on me but then is up every hour at night. Projectile vommitting when she eats, pale stool. I haven’t got her to take Tylenol again. I can’t stop crying I feel like I should have trusted my gut and said no To the rsv vaccine when I realized it was new and not a normal Mandated vaccination. And my husband has to work this evening so I’ll have her and my 20 month old alone and no help from friends or family And I just can’t stop crying I feel so bad.

My baby also got RSV and all 4 month shots. He did not get the flu because my pediatrician said he wouldn’t qualify until 6 months. He’s had 3 days of fever but no other symptoms. Now he is developing a cough but I got sick a week ago so I figured he was bound to get a cold/whatever I had. None of the other symptoms you described have been happening but we are only on day 3 and my pediatrician said some kids take the RSV antibodies harder than others.

I’m in shock they told you the RSV is mandated bc from my research it is not. In the future, you can always say “not today” to anything they want to do so you can go home and think about it or do your research and make an appt for a few weeks later so it’s not all at once too.

The RSV is antibodies not actually a vaccine and I don’t think is associated with the symptoms mentioned - my 4 mo just got it and didn’t have any obvious side effects. The digestive issues might be the rotovirus (the one they eat)? Regardless, definitely encourage reaching out to the doctors office. I’m definitely not a doctor but those all sound a bit severe and anytime they’re lasting longer or getting worse best to err on the side of caution and reach out to them for leave of mind. And there’s no need to feel bad! You did nothing wrong! It’s hard to know what to do in those situations and we just do the best we can with the information we have at the time. Hope your baby feels better soon!!!

We had all the 4 month vaccines, including RSV, with no issues. Maybe you should take your baby in.
