Need help!

Hey so my babygirl is 3 weeks old she is completely breastfed and the last several days she has been having trouble pooping. She is straining so hard she has popped a blood vessel in her eye. I have tried literally everything to help her. Massages, bicycle legs, mylicon drops, the gas passer sticks by Frida mom (i think) and nothing is helping her! Anybody have any suggestions?

double check but my MIL advised me to give my son 1/2 ounce of sterilized water to help it pass I think he was about 2 months and it did work like a charm just be careful though x

Have you tried a warm bath?

@Sara yes I have.

@Lillie she’s only 3 weeks so idk if water is ok to give her yet but I’ll ask her pediatrician!

@Sydnee, i think you just need to continue doing the tummy massages, bicycle legs, and warm baths to try to ease it. It's not common for an exclusively breastfed baby to be constipated. Could it be from something that you're eating? Also, it'll be a good idea to get bub checked over. There may be something else causing the constipation.

Chiropractor! My girl would go weeks not being able to poop and after her first session at the chiro she was able to go a few times a day!

I bottle feed, pumped breast milk and sometimes formula. My baby was constipated recently and my pediatrician recommended half an ounce of prune juice in a bottle.

If your baby is constipated and exclusively BF then it may be what you are eating. It’s super important to hydrate and having oatmeal once a day with berries increases your fiber intake.

My baby just went through that and finally pooped.. I was deff dehydrated and not eating regularly and it was affecting my milk. Happened with my first (3) and I had to start hydrating and eating more fiber foods

In the first few months my little girl who was EBF was continually constipated, it is common. I tried everything. I had reservations about water too but an ounce of cooled boiled water done the trick every time for her. It’s horrible seeing them in so much pain x

When you say she’s having trouble pooping, does that mean she’s actually constipated (nothing is coming out/if something comes out it’s hard), or does that mean her poop is fine (coming out sometimes and soft when it does) but she’s working way too hard to get it out? My baby was more the latter — her poop was soft but she was working so so hard to get it out. I think my baby hadn't figured out how to relax her anus to let the poop out and would just bear down super hard instead. I think the very small quantity of water or prune juice would help with actual constipation but if your baby is like mine where they just haven't fully figured out pooping yet, we just tried to do bicycle kicks to move things and tried to keep her as comfortable as we could (holding her upright with her legs folded in front of her seemed to help) and as she got older she figured it out more.
