Reflux

My little boy is 8 weeks old and is sometimes projectile vomiting. It’s so horrible and distresses him and me so much. It’s not after every feed and sometimes it will be days between incidents, but yesterday it happened twice. Does anyone have any experience with this and any tips? Thank you! 💕

Have you tried gripe water before a feeding yet?

Projectile vomiting like shooting out in front of him? Or just a very violent/large spit up?

I had similar experience with my now 20 month old. I dreaded every feed coz most of them he’d bring half of it back up and it would go all over him, me and something else. Turns out it was in fact acid reflex and he was prescribed with gaviscon infant to mix into his bottles to help. Stopped straight away. I’d go speak to a GP and see what they say xx

Pace Feed half burp pace feed other half burp sit upright for 30 minutes minimum

@Josie I second this. Even sitting upright for feedings can be helpful.

It’s obviously not necessarily the case for you but my girl was doing this when I ate a lot of garlic and chilli. She’s very sensitive to what I eat unfortunately, so I cut those down. Two nights ago I dared to have a mild thai curry and there she was vomiting again in the morning.

@Marina out of interest - how soon after you eating garlic and chilli does your LO vomit?

@Amira few hours, often if I have it for dinner she gets really wriggly at night after feeds and ends up vomiting a few times in the morning x

Our baby had real bad spit ups, not projectile but after each feed would vomit for hours after, it was all bubbly and would come down his nose restricting his breathing. He was prescribed infant gaviscon and it instantly made a difference. So so grateful now he can manage his reflux better. Still always sit up for 30 mins after feeding and don't pat him too much when winding him. We gently bring him up to our chest and just hold him there. We also hook his chin over our right shoulder and bring his bottom to the centre of our chests so he's leaning to the left, this gently brings up his wind 9/10! We also lean him to the left to feed as this opens the stomach valve. Have a look at elevated side laying feeding. If breast fed always ensure head is above feet level. Hope this helps xxx

@Jessa not before a feed no! That’s a good idea, thank you! I will give it a go

@Monét sometimes it’s a large spit up, but occasionally we get projectile. Can’t believe so much can come out of him!!

@Beth This is super helpful, thank you so so much. So glad your little one is doing better with his reflux 💕

Thank you all so so much for your help. So thankful that you all took the time to reply 🥰💕
