‘Mature for your age’ 🙄

I’ve always been the ‘mature’ one ever since I was young. I’m now a mum to a 9 month old little boy and I’m honestly ashamed to admit I don’t know how to play with him. It feels so foreign and uncomfortable to me, I don’t even know what I’m doing. Does anyone else feel like this? Or does anyone have any ideas for play?

I’m the same. I have an older brother but always acted like the eldest sister, taking care of everyone. I also always loved children but never knew how to play with them (and still don’t). I was worried when I had my baby but I kind of just let myself be completely silly and it made him laugh. I’m sure what I do won’t entertain other babies but it entertains mine so I’m ok with it. Don’t worry about the right way to play with your little boy. There is no right way. Just let yourself be silly and he’ll appreciate your presence.

😔 I'm happy but sad I'm not the only one. It feels so awkward. I was lucky my son had therapy and we were in a first time mom program. Do you have any local mom groups or first time mom programs in your area? Also Pinterest and Instagram have helped me a lot come up with things to do. You kind of have to retrain your brain out of survival mode. It takes time but trust me it's worth it

@Sherissa You are so right about retraining your brain and getting out of survival mode. OP- I felt the same way with my son when he was around 4 or 5 months. It took some work on finding my inner silliness as Sherissa said. Eventually you figure it out. My son is 14 months old and I have a hard time still with imaginative play but I am working on it. Also, when you see other moms out with their kids, take note of how they are playing or communicating with them, that's what I do. :) Don't worry, you'll figure it out, I promise.
