Infant Gaviscon

Hi My son has been having Gaviscon in his milk for almost 3 weeks, the doctor did say he might get constipated at first but he didn’t. However, he last had a poo 6am yesterday, has anyone else experienced this is yes: 1. How long did you wait to see if they popped before seeking help? 2. If you did get help what was the outcome? Thanks xx

Following. My girl will start hers today, she’s 8 weeks old. Have you seen an improvement in your boy? Xx

My boy was only going poo every few days when he was put on gaviscon so we were prescribed lactulose at the same time. Might be worth asking the doctor for this aswell.

Not gaviscon related but when I took my little boy to the drs they wouldn't do anything for constipation until if had been a week (breastfed not sure if it's different for formula) they had a feel of his tummy and because he wasn't uncomfortable and his tummy was still soft they said he was fine and to come back in a few days if he still hadn't gone

My boy went 4 days at the longest we stopped giving it because it was making him uncomfortable

@Andria yes massively, he was bring up so much of his milk before and doesn’t throw his head back as much when feeding. Hope it helps for your daughter xx

@Lizzie I will request this thank you! They should poo at least once a day right? X

@Hannah thank you, will keep this in mind about the tummy part xx

@Flo Did you find an alternative for the reflux? X

We have found anti reflux formula and small feeds more often worked for us x

@Sharna we were told it can vary, some babies only go every couple days. I think it depends what is normal for your baby. Apparently no need to worry too much until it’s been a few days. Mine tends to go every other day but it’s still soft which is apparently ok. We were told it’s only constipation if the poo becomes like hard pebbles, but we give him lactulose when I can see it becoming firmer before it gets to that stage.

@Lizzie Amazing, thank you for this information it’s really helpful. The last poo he had was pebbles to start then the rest was soft, will see how he goes x

@Flo Did the doctor recommend going on anti reflux formula? I was going to do this but it says to seek advice from health professional. It’s so hard sometimes to know what you should and shouldn’t do x

I went back to the GP and they said give anti reflux a try if not there are other medications you can try too
