We were prescribed cosmocol laxatives and they worked within a few days she was having regular loose stools.
I guess all doctors think different but when I had the appointment with my doctor before she got laxatives I mentioned should I give her lactalose and he said it was too strong for her then prescribed cosmocol
We were given lactulose as LG didn’t poo for a week and it didn’t work, LG was passing super hard nuggets and screaming in pain. Gave my LG a sachet of prune puree in the evening and the next day she did 5 poos and cleared herself right out! Sometimes natural laxatives are best! X
Thanks for sharing everyone. I'll give the lactulose a go for a few days and then try some prune puree. I'd rather have to clean up an absolute mess than see him in so much pain. He's quite a windy boy at the best of times, hoping because he's more mobile it won't get so trapped if it does cause it.
I've used lactulose and it worked. I'd start giving puréed prunes alongside now as the prunes on their own are unlikely to be more effective than lactulose. You can also try baby massage for constipation alongside (if you google) and also just make sure you're offering plenty of water at meal times. Hope it clears up soon xx
@Beard he doesn't actually struggle with the frequency, he does go daily it's just the consistency. He's been drinking 3-5oz water a day too and we do a bit of a massage as part of bed time routine (he suffered with trapped wind when he was small too) We've also been told that mixing cloudy apple juice into water is meant to be effective so we are going to give that a go
My little girl was on lactulose for 2 weeks when she was 3 months old. If i’m really honest it made her worse, it gave her really bad trapped gas, we tried to push through but after she was screaming in pain i took her off it and she regulated her poops after a while. Every baby is different so it might work wonders with your little boy, just wanted to share my experience incase you have the same! X
