Alfamino reaction? is this normal?

So my little girl was originally put on nutramagin Due to extreme constipation and painfull farts and pain in belly the day she was put onto nutramagin her constipation went and her belly was a lot better a couple of days after she had a bit of bloody mucus in her poo I took her to Doctors and Doctors told me bring back if happens again, two weeks after she started nutramigin she had a bit of bloody mucus in her poo again. She started pooping four times a day, which was double the amount she was before. She was screaming while poo she had an extremely sore bum and her poo was very watery so they put her on Alfamino milk The day after she was put onto alfamino I had to take her back down to get thicker as she was throwing up the whole bottle since then she is now constipated again she’s in extreme pain farting again and her farts smell awful. She also has a rash and is constantly in a lot of pain because of her belly. Her belly is also making lots of noise. I have spoken to the hospital and they have told me it’s just her belly getting used to the milk it has now been a week since she started the milk and the symptoms are just getting worse. Is this normal? Because I really don’t feel like it is and I’m not sure what to do as the hospital will not listen to me.

The hospital are correct it takes 6 weeks to adjust to the milk as their guts need to purge and heal and like with all treatments (antibiotics etc) things get worse before better. Persevere for a bit longer and it should get better. Cmpa isn't an easy fix or an easy road to go down x

@YazmynJade I just don’t understand how I’m expected to sit and watch her In agony going 4-5 days withought pooing 24/7 in agony with her belly and it’s so hard to believe there really is nothing I can do at all to help🥲

What thickener did you get in the end? It isn’t possible according to GPs but some children react to some thickeners I’d be shocked if she’s reacting to alfamino because it is the last resort formula normally as it has none of the ‘common’ allergies in It takes a while to crack CMPA and find the right mix for your little one new milks take a while to get used to and also healing of their gut etc takes time x

She will likely need lactulose while adjusting and if she's on carobel it's soya based which means she could be allergic to soya and need something like gaviscon instead. If it's gaviscon then she's having too much causing the constipation and would be better on carobel which you buy over the counter from places like Amazon

@YazmynJade she was originally on gaviscin for reflux then when put on alfammino had thickner so we had to stop using carobel

What thickener was given?

My little girl reacted to carobel It’s awful

@Amy what was her symptoms?x

@YazmynJade carobel

@YazmynJade how old do you have to be for lactolose xx

@Amy she’s on carobel xx

@YazmynJade carobel dosnt have soy xx

She was constipated, gassy, whingey, really unsettled and in pain We sacked it off tried gaviscon sacked that off as made her so constipated too! tried omeprosole for reflux didn’t work And settled on leaving her to be ‘sick’ because she was gaining weight and was happy and not in pain! 🤦🏻‍♀️ We discovered alfamino on its own caused some sickness but was better than the mix of others which caused issues! X

@Amy my little girl was throwing up every drop that she drank do you think maybe if I slowly decrease the thickner she might eventually be alright with just the milk xxx

It’s honestly worth a try! Also remember it may not be the whole bottle - we also did smaller feeds more frequently to help Carobel isn’t soy BUT is made from something in the legume family which some can react too It’s hard to see little ones in pain isn’t it :( xxx

@Amy so if she’s reacting to it is there a possible chance of soy allergy just so I know in advance for when she’s weaning to be carefull and ino especially when there’s nothing we can do to help and it seems everytime she starts feeling better it goes bad again🥲xx

AHH my mistake carobel doesn't have soya you're correct but carobel does seem to cause and issue for loads of cmpa babies

Pretty sure they can have lactulose from a few weeks old you'd need to ask a gp

Also alfamino is soya free so won't be a soya allergy

@YazmynJade it’s all just so confusing 😂I hate not knowing anything about it to help xx

Soy allergies are very common in CMPA children So definitely one to watch when weaning :)
