Stool softener advise, please ladies. 💩😂

So I've got my date. Baby's not due till 3rd dec, but he will be making an exit on 22nd @ 38+3. (Dependent on if i get pushed back.) I suffered so bad after my last section 19m ago. Couldn't toilet for weeks and was so compacted and painfull it was unreal, and i got 🍑🫒. I didn't take any stool softener and my little one was in the nicu after birth, so I didn't focus on my own health and recovery as much as I should have due to anxiety with my LO. What have/will you be taking to help in that department? What have you used in the past that has done the trick? Whenever I asked for help in the hospital after all I got was it will come just keep trying. And I don't want to be doing that again 😩.

I ate lots of fibre/flapjacks and drank loadsss of water. I also didn’t take the codeine or iron tablets as they caused the constipation. I didn’t stress about it and on day 3/4 it just happened and was absolutely fine

Movicol or Osmolax are the best ones for me. They work really well

I took Lactulose morning and evening and had absolutely no issues. This is what I was given in the hospital and I continued taking it for about two weeks. Make sure you are drinking loads of water as well.

I got given stool softener the first time they came round to do my meds, I didn’t even know what it was 🤣 then they gave me a bottle away with me to use for a week. I didn’t have to ask for it

Keep super hydrated and I will be using laxido this time. I used senna, lactulose and laxido last time but I think it was too compacted and too late. Oramorph was what caused the issue for me. So I will try to avoid, and stick to paracetamol and ibuprofen. Cocodomol is also really constipating

I've been using lactulose and laxido through pregnancy as have a bowel condition on top of regular pregnancy constipation and I'll continue to use those. They're very gentle haven't caused me cramps or the opposite effect 🙃

Lactulose saved me hahha

I used just an over the counter generic brand stool softener worked fine for me

I suffered really bad too with constipation, it was the worse bit after my section. They gave me a stool softener at the hospital which made me 💨 soooooo much it was crazy, just keep on top of that and you should be able to pass stool too. I ended up drinking more than the recommended dose because I was badly constipated

Lactolose and lots of watee

Miralax or anything similar. It was what saved me both times also the doctor should give you stool softener in the hospital so I'd ask for a script for the first 10 days or so to bring home. My first c section I didn't know much and went 2 weeks with out decent #2 crying terribly all the way and Miralax was what helped me.. second time I actually took every stool softener they offered asked for some to take home lol annd even brought Miralax to the hospital w me and drank it day 2. Everything was fine no tears were shed lol. Its great to be thinking ahead. You'll be just fine 🙏

Movicol/laxido…different brand names for same thing. I had same problem as you!

I used Colace stool softener, I think 1-2 times per day for a full week after my C-section

Chewing gum helps

Yes Colace helped me every time 🙌

Thankyou everyone. 💓 I will be getting me a bottle of lactose this weekend. Hopefully I'll be good this time around.
