It’s to protect you and baby against Respiratory Syncytial Virus. It’s just been introduced to the UK this year for pregnant women, the elderly and immunocompromised. They recommend it because of a huge increase in the number of cases in the UK, it can seriously affect babies. It’s a well known vaccine across parts of Europe and US. Recommended after 28 weeks. I mentioned it to my midwife and she gave me it at my last appointment at 34 weeks. If you want to find out more there is very specific information here that is pregnancy specific - https://www.nhsinform.scot/healthy-living/immunisation/vaccines/rsv-vaccine-during-pregnancy/
Get it if you can in my opinion. RSV is already taking over children wards like it does every year.
Absolutely get it if you can! It only just got introduced for pregnant women recently - my friend who had her baby 9 months ago was before the vaccine came out and her baby was really sick with bronchiolitis, which is one of the things that can be caused by the RSV virus. I was so relieved when I found out we can have the vaccine ❤️
Basically the same as whooping cough but for RSV. I think they only give it up to 36 weeks . I had mine at 28 weeks but when i went for it I signed a document asking if I had been given/ read the leaflet provided. I stupidly put yes because I was getting it anyway. but was never given leaflet.
