Overfeeding? Is this is a symptom?

My little boy has suspected silent reflux which gets worse in the evening. He’s 5 weeks old on Friday. He constantly feeds from around 6pm to 12.30am and is extremely unsettled. Last night was the worst one yet, he was awake for 9 hours from 3.30pm to 12.30am. It’s almost like during this time he is using the milk as some form of relief. He had 21oz in this time and then slept for 6 hours! Does this sound like another sign/symptom?

Yes, my 5 week old is exactly the same. Our health visitor said the reason why they are over feeding is because they are looking for relief 🥺

@Sam sounds like our babies are showing the exact same symptoms! What have you been using to relieve them? We’ve got some gaviscon coming in the next couple of days.

We tried Carabel the milk thickner but that didn’t seem to work, we then went straight onto gaviscon and now the baby has become extremely constipated and is screaming in pain because of that 🙈 As of last night, we are now going to give him only half a sachet of gaviscon with every feed. I think it’s helped but it’s really hard to tell where he’s now in so much pain with the constipation. If it doesn’t work then we have decided we are going to try changing his formula to see if that works. The doctor wasn’t happy with the amount he’s feeding so he’s told us to try cutting down, and feeding more frequently. This is a work in progress 😂🙈 Let me know if you have any luck, really hope it works 🙏 just be careful about the constipation xxx

Unsure if this helps but I know that babies use feeding as a relief from the burn of the reflux in their throat & chest. So it could be that they keep feeding to stop the pain as opposed to being hungry x
