hey! so my son was born 40+3 but he only passed his test in one ear. They said it could be due to his snoring or a build up of mucus from birth. One thing they told me to keep in mind is that a lot of babies fail the first one then pass the second. You can test it at home by clapping randomly or slamming a door and see if she reacts. Hope this helps x
My son was born elective c section at 39 weeks and failed his hearing in both ears. I cried in hospital! A couple weeks later we went back to the hospital and he passed! C section babies are known to fail and also only pass in one ear because of mucus build up. Hang in there! When’s your next test?
@Sophie Thankyou so much for your response ❤️it’s next week xx
My baby passed and I didn’t have a c-section but thought it was worth saying that he was the only baby who passed on the ward that day so all others didn’t. Think it’s pretty common so hope your little one is ok. Sorry I’m commenting with no experience myself but hoping this might help reassure you x
Please don’t worry! Mine was a csection baby and also failed the hearing test in both ears. I didn’t have that with my first who was also a C-section, so I was worried sick. When we went back for the repeat test, it was totally fine. The first nurse doing the test told me, ours was the third baby who failed the test that day during her rounds. She said it’s very common for babies not to pass the first test because of all the mucus and she said she’s not sure why the test is done so early after birth, as so many babies ‘fail’ the test unnecessarily but they have to tell you it could be hearing loss, which in most cases it isn’t. For the rest of the week I kept looking to see if my newborn was reacting to loud noises and convinced myself he wasn’t. Turns out I was worrying for no reason. Xx
My daughter didn’t fail on both but failed the test overall as she failed on one. We went back a few weeks later and she passed 💕 They do say because of a section the baby isn’t pushed though the canal so it can mean they don’t get rid of mucas as fast and it’s super common for C-section babies specifically to have more mucus and to fail the test
Thankyou so much for all of your replies ❤️they are very reassuring xx
Mine didn’t fail but she had to do it a few times and she said it was a build up of mucus x
They can definitely fail the 1st but pass the second hang in there mama I had my 4th at 36w6d she passed her 1st hearing test but her thyroid isn't okay
