Switching formula - Comfort?

Hi all! My baby boy has always been on Aptamil 1, and we've always had excessive wind (series of colic), infrequent dirty nappies (1 a week and been in discomfort when it comes to it) I've raised some concerns along the way, and my HV always said "That's normal for formula fed babies" ... It has gotten worse over the last two weeks - Clear pain/discomfort after feeds, fighting being burped, rejecting bottle after 30ml, inconsolable crying for over a week, not napping/sleeping at night (10 minutes when I'm holding him).. getting to the point where he is now refusing feeds from the bottle. Luckily I'm still producing milk, but not a lot. He gets frustrated on the boob. GP visit yesterday, in the room less than a minute. Checked his temperature, and felt his belly without taking him out of the pram - "Yeah, he's bloated so he's constipated" ... Stools have been soft but showing signs of digestive issues. I was given lactulose to give him for "a couple of weeks" ... my god, gave 2.5ml when I got home, and he now has diarrhoea. I've not given another dose. I'm going to switch formula to try this for a week before going back to GP - has anyone changed formula? Any recommendations if you've experienced similar? I asked my HV and she said "They're all the same". This is more than colic, it all starts as soon as he has his first bit of formula in the morning and gets even worse in evening/night. Has anyone tried a comfort formula and noticed any improvements? I need to try something as I'm feeling very fobbed off. A different nurse I spoke to yesterday on HV line said it could be CMPA, but GP said he won't trial prescription formula until he's had lactulose for a couple of weeks! Feeling very sorry for my little one.

We swapped from the normal kendamil to kendamil comfort for very similar reason and he now goes every day and is only very occasionally in pain now with wind etc. it’s definitely worth a try!!

The health visitors and GPs were useless for us! In the end I just knew there wasn’t something right and I got my little one assessed privately for tongue tie which we found out he had! Was causing him terrible wind and reflux and he was uncomfortable pretty much all of the time!! Thing about GPs is they tend to just treat the symptoms rather than the cause! If you find comfort milk helps it is likely your little one is either lactose intolerant or is finding the milk protein hard to digest and that might be your answer. I tried comfort but it didn’t change anything for my LO and that’s when I got him assessed for tongue tie. It sounds like CMPA could be likely but I believe usually there is usually a rash and diarrhoea with it? I might be wrong. Definitely also consider tongue tie too! From just visually I didn’t think it looked like mine had one but turned out to be a 70% tongue tie!

I had the same with Aptamil, I combi fed for about 7 weeks from birth. Then went to pure formula feeding with Aptamil and he was horrendous in pain with wind, especially early evening . I changed to Nannycare which is goats milk without any healthcare advice and it took about a week to notice a huge difference and now he barely ever struggles with wind.

My daughter started on kendamil had a terrible reaction so we switched to aptamil still no better. Doctor did prescribe us cmpa formula she was on that for 4 weeks. I then got told to do a milk challenge at home where reintroduced normal formula. We chose to use Hipp and so far so good x

Thank you all for your help! I really appreciate it 🙏🏼 I'm going to give comfort formula a go 🤞🏻 Just a lot of trial and error! X

My LO had this and turnt out it was his latch on the bottle and was taking in to much air. He was on Rommel yippee, we switch to mam and it defo made improvements l. Did take a few weeks to notice difference x
