Most start them at 37 week appts. But you can always ask for one
I was wondering the same thing and at my last appt I asked about it and she said they do cervical checks at 37 and on if there are other signs of labor. She also said if I am still pregnant after 40 weeks they can do a membrane sweep. Sounds like they try to keep it pretty low intervention.
I had my cervix checked at my 36 weeks check up (yesterday-Monday). I’m 1cm dilated. My doctor mentioned about it but it was up to me if I wanted her to check or not. I was fine with it as I was also curious. It’s the membrane sweep is what I was more worried about. Because with my first, she did a membrane sweep and that put me into labor that weekend. I gave birth 37 weeks + 6 days.
My practice won’t do one until 40wks (unless baby comes earlier or unless I ask) since the info doesn’t always mean much. For instance, you can be 3cm dilated for weeks, or be 0cm dilated & give birth the next day🤷♀️
@s a r a 🥀 does membrane sweep hurt?
@Katia I don’t quite remember but I would say it’s definitely uncomfortable.
@Katia it’s more of an uncomfortable feeling than an actual pain feeling!
Some doctors won’t do it unless you ask for it, with my first baby I asked for one done at 38 weeks and 2 days, I was 2 cm dilated and I opted to have a membrane sweep that same day because I was already dilated and ready for baby to be here.
