Anyone else’s OB *not* performing cervical checks?

My OB says it’s no longer their practice to do checks at every appointment, but they’ll do them if asked. Just curious if anyone is experiencing the same? I’m 36+3, having cramping the last couple of days and think I should ask to be checked at my weekly tomorrow!

Cervical checks begin at 36 weeks

@Amanda I know they do. I asked earlier on in my pregnancy about it & she told me they don’t routinely do them, even past 36 weeks.

My doctors don’t do it either! They said it’s optional now bc of how uncomfortable it can be for us. They said they do a check at 38 weeks, but that’s it. If you request a check, they’ll definitely do it though!

No, not unless requested.

They are unnecessary. I wouldn’t recommend doing them before 39 weeks. You’ll know when you’re in labor and if you are they will check you when you go into triage before being admitted to labor and delivery.

My cervic check began today at 37 weeks

My midwife said it's becoming more common to not do it since it's uncomfortable (and it really is) and doesn't tell you that much about how you are progressing. I had one because I was in labor and delivery and having light contractions and bleeding (dehydration was likely causing the contractions) and they wanted to double check I wasn't about to go into labor). But as far as regular checks it doesn't tell you as much. But it depends on your practice really.

same here - I’m 36 weeks today, and they told me we can check you at 37 if you want. So next week it is! lol I’m curious to know if I’m dilated, cuz I also have been cramping at night the last couple days.

I get my 36 week cervical check today. Mine is more to see what date I need to be induced since my OB isn’t letting me go past 40 weeks. My fingers are crossed for an induction in 2 weeks 🙂

I’m getting one done at 36 weeks but she said it not mandatory, that I don’t have to do it if I don’t wanna
