UK: how much do you pay per month towards car insurance????

I’ve been driving 7 years now and mine is about £800 for the year Are these quotes with a black box?

My first year was £280, I've been driving 9 years and I'm down to £78 a month now. The first year is extortionate!

Sadly that seems about right for insurance now, it also depends on what car you have ironically older cars can be more expensive to insurance because of less safety features

Sadly sounds about right for a new driver, depends also on age, car, location, where you live etc. try an insurance broker (not a comparison site, find a broker where you call up) and they can generally find the best option for you xx

How old are you? New drivers in their 30s pay a lot less than new driver in their early 20s. My manager just passed her driving test at 33 and her insurance was only £900 for the whole year with admiral.

Definitely depends on your age I think. I passed last month and my insurance is £750 pa, but I am 27 so no longer considered a young driver

It’s shocking. In the last year insurance costs have went through the roof. Apparently it’s to do with the increased costs for parts and increase in claims. I have been driving since 18 and I’m 33 now and never had a claim. In 2023 my monthly insurance cost £21 per month for a brand new car. I had to renew in February 2024and the cheapest I could get was £57 per month and that’s with a higher excess and the same car! I’m actually paying more now than when I first passed my test. I don’t know how new drivers can afford it with prices like what you’ve been quoted. Are there any more experienced drivers in your family that you could add on as a named driver to see if that brings your quote down? X

I pay £800 for the year but I’m 30 and have been driving 12 years. Last year was £1300! So tipping 30 does usually make a big difference x

Yeah but As a new driver you should be able to get a black box Is that £350 with a black box?

Shouldn’t make any difference in theory if it’s automatic but some parts will cost more on an auto, would have thought it would be minimal. Have you gone through the ones not on comparison sites? Aviva, direct line, LV come to mind.

I pay £50 a month. It used to be £30 a month but I was in a bad accident last year and had to make a claim. Been driving 12 years though x

Mine went up to £367 for the year and I thought that was expensive 🤯

In that case I’d really recommend a broker! Google insurance brokers local to you and then call one. They’ll do all the leg work for you x

Check what ABI insurance group your car is. If it's a high ABI like big engine or sporty car etc your insurance will be high ☹️ do you have a friend you can add on who's driven for a long time with no claims? This can help bring it down x

You can definitely get cheaper, keep hunting around. You might want to try 3rd party only that will be much cheaper but then if you crash and it’s your fault you are liable for costs to your own car. You can also try as others have said things to reduce it like black box, putting other named drivers on there with more experience, saying you won’t drive more than 10k miles a year (how are they ever going to check lol)

There's a lot of depending factors like the car you drive area etc. I've been driving almost 5 years and drive an automatic my insurance is just under 50 a month. My friend who passed her test last year still pays like 1000 a year and her car is smaller than mine.
