Did anyone have issues leaving the hospital without a car seat?

My partner and I chose to buy the 4 in 1 convertible car seat due to better safety ratings. A friend of mine told me the hospital won't let us leave without seeing the baby in it. It's meant to stay in the vehicle.

Not sure where you live, but I'm in Manitoba. The nurses at the front desk need to see our baby in its car seat buckled properly before letting us leave.

We had to show the car seat to the nurse and they checked it before we left. I'm in Ontario

Alberta. We had read the same thing, that the nurses wouldn't let you leave without first seeing the baby buckled into the carseat, but when we left the maternity ward, they actually told us they aren't even allowed to check them at all. I thought it was wierd, but 🤷

Ontario, we had to show a specific nurse who is a CPST our baby in his car seat before discharge

Usually hospitals have like an orientation/walk through. Could it be a question you bring up then?

@Sheri huh, im in mb as well they just checked the seat for the date not him being buckled. But could also be different in the city you gave bith

Following! I’m in Ontario and they checked baby all buckled in to his bucket seat; but I know people who never got a bucket style seat so I’m assuming they were able to leave it in the car?

@Melissa that’s odd. I’m in Alberta too and we had to bring in our car seat. She told us how to use it, needed to watch us use it and then check it. She wasn’t allowed to touch it, but she did need to check off we knew how to use it. She even suggested that we buy a new car seat because we’re reusing one from our first born (who is only two btw).

@Kelly very weird. We assumed they would want to check it but no, they said they weren't even allowed. I gave birth at the Red Deer Hospital.

Yes I had to show baby in infant seat before leaving. My advice, find a free infant seat on FB marketplace, Kijiji etc. Bring it just for show. Throw it out after and use your seat in the car. I wouldn't advise actually using a secondhand seat because you don't know if it's safe/been in an accident/etc but just use it to carry baby out of hospital to the car.

Alberta and we had to put baby in and buckle him in before we left. The Nurse checked to make sure it was done up right.
