Does my baby need next car seat size?

Hi! My baby is in the infant carseat I got with the Britax Romer Strider M travel system. He is 6 months old now and is still under the weight limit for the car seat (13kg), but he has long legs & his legs are going up the seat so I think he needs a bigger car seat ? The only problem I’ve got is I don’t drive but am always in friend’s cars (this is a Fiat 500), however this car seat fits to the pram base and I can’t always bring the pushchair attachment as it won’t always fit in peoples cars! So I’m really worried for when I need to upgrade. Not sure if a bigger car seat would fit to the base if this makes sense? Does anyone else have a similar experience and can provide any tips and solutions that would be ideal, thank you. (Pic for reference, also he is in the front seat because I’m in my friend’s 3 door car and it’s not isofix but she has the airbag off. He’s also in his coat as it was freezing out and can’t take his coat off when in the car)

Your baby does not need a new seat if they’re within the height and weight limit. He is probably just putting his feet up for comfort. For the next stage car seat you’d probably be best getting a belted seat like a Joie Every Stage R129 as you’ll be able to fit that in all cars. I would highly suggest you take the coat off him while in the car. Pop a blanket over him while going to the car and until the car is warmed up. Even if he’s cold for a few minutes it’s better than him getting flung out the seat and potentially dying if you were to be in an accident. You could also get a merino wool suit which keeps him cosy but is thin so won’t have an impact on the harness fitting snugly

Definitely take the pramsuit off of him while he's in the car seat. I used to use the attachments and take my car seat in and out of the cars, but now I leave the car seat in the car and have changed my original buggy to a stroller so I don't have to faff around. I have the yoyo babyzen and it folds up small and comes with a strap so you can put it over your shoulder like a bag. Sometimes if my son falls asleep in his car seat then I'll bring the whole car seat indoors and just bring the collapsed buggy in over my shoulder. But it's very rare that that happens x

No snowsuit or hat in the car as others have mentioned! I would recommend joining car seat safety uk group on Facebook for advice and car seat recommendations.

You need to take the coat off lovely. Even when freezing. It could save his life x

Pram suit needs to come off regardless of how cold it is outside, not safe for car seat use. Wrap them in a blanket over the top of the straps

Ok guys thanks will defo not put his thick coat on then in the car anymore. Do you know if the clair de lune star blanket wrap is safe in the car? As it’s thinner. I’m just thinking if the next stage car seat would attach though to the pram base?

@Vicky do you know if it would attach to the britax m stroller though?

@Donna it won’t, unfortunately none of the next stage seats will. As for your baby fitting, you’d just be best measuring his length to see if he’s within limit. As he’s 6 months I imagine he will be x

@Vicky oh no it’s gonna make it hard then when being dropped off by a friend somewhere as I’m gonna have to take car seat and pram & then have to carry car seat & put him in pram 🙃

@Vicky I have some attachments that came with the travel system, wonder if any brands can use them for attaching ? I dunno how to find this info out though

What the heck do people who don’t drive do 🤦🏻‍♀️

@Donna next stage car seats are too bulky and don’t have a way to get attached to prams. In all honesty I have no idea what people who don’t drive do, hopefully someone who’s in a similar situation could help. Could your friend maybe keep the car seat if they’re dropping you off and drop it off once you’re home if they’re not giving you a lift back?
