Best to have one 7+ weeks They will try abdominal, if they find it hard to visualise then they will ask if they can do vaginal - it doesn’t hurt.
Early scans at 6-7 weeks can happen but you will likely need to go private. They will be transvaginal that early on in your pregnancy but it absolutely does not hurt. Also the whole thing can be as short as 10-15 minutes. All very relaxed
So I had an early scan at 9 weeks. It was the normal external one, not transvaginal, and they could hear the heartbeat etc. I actually had it done at my NHS hospital. A lot of hospitals do early reassurance scans for a small fee (think it was £130). You can also go to a private clinic like Window to the Womb. Personally I’d book it for the 9 week mark so it can be external and you know they’ll definitely hear the heartbeat. Sometimes with earlier ones they may not be able to. It was a lovely experience imo and bridged the gap nicely in the middle between finding out (at 4W and our 12W scan)
I had one at 6 weeks was such a relief to see a little heart beat ❤️ if it will put your mind at rest go as soon as you can 😊 Transvaginal didn't hurt and only took 5 -10 mins
If your dates are a little bit off you might not be able to see much at 6 weeks, I went at 8 weeks (I thought) but I was actually only measuring around 6 as I'd ovulated late, it took them ages to find the heartbeat/check if baby was there as they were so tiny and I found it actually made me feel more anxious 🤦 I went back at 10 weeks and you could see baby quite clearly and I got to see the heartbeat flickering etc x
I had one at 7+6 and it was abdominal and I saw baby and heard the heartbeat. My appointment was around 30 minutes I believe.
