I also have a left lateral placenta, it wasn’t raised as an issue (now 27 weeks), but i read the same as you on google a couple of weeks ago, so will ask the midwife next week at my appointment. I was also worried after reading that!
Yep, there’s no indication of any poor maternal or neonatal outcomes with a lateral placenta alone. If this is quoted from a study, by guess is there were already associated risk factors of the bits that are highlighted, or were coincidental. Eclampsia, HELLP, haemorrhage are all interlinked anyway, you can expect and prepare in advance for haemorrhage with pre-eclampsia/HELLP because of the effect that condition has on the blood/circulatory system, and it’s more likely for babies not to cope in labour/have unplanned preterm c-sections due to concerns with growth, blood flow to baby etc leading to a higher incidence of haemorrhage for mam, low APGARs and NICU admissions for baby. Went off on a bit of a tangent 😂 but no, bottom line is to not worry about a high left lateral placenta on its own. It serves no indication you’ll have any problems, if you did it’s coincidental. The reason why they check location on scans is to make sure it’s nowhere near your cervix
Thankyou so much Claire
I also had left renal pelvis measuring 6mm, what is treated as normal? As they asked me for a rescan at 28 weeks
It’s on the left hand side of your uterus, near the top - ‘high’ - and out of the way of your cervix. All good & nothing to worry about 😊
