Is anyone else such a perfectionist that it’s hard to try new things ?

I want to try hobbies because well I never really have one before but I am afraid of not being good at something right away.

Yes that’s me. If I can’t do it perfectly I don’t want to do it. And if I mess up while doing it I end up mad.

I’ll try anything but even when I make something well my eye goes immediately to any imperfection even if it’s tiny.

I am a bit of a perfectionist and I’ve been trying different hobbies lately and a couple that I found I liked has been paint by number paintings… it’s something that can be kinda perfected in the way that it tells you exactly where to put what color and you can just keep painting til you feel satisfied with it… yeah I can be a bit of a perfectionist with it but only cuz it tells me exactly how to do it which is nice. Something else that I like doing that isn’t a perfectionist thing is junk journaling. That doesn’t need perfection- it’s just fun to create and you can’t mess up a junk journal.

Im kind of a perfectionist but really only with certain things. Like my job for example. Which means I take a lot longer to clean then the other cleaners do because I want it perfect. Though it appears it doesn’t have to be my level of clean because the other housekeepers don’t do the best job 😂🤣

I didn't ask to be in this post 🫠🙃

@Raqi lmao

I am trying to figure out a hobby to do and I can’t pick one because I don’t believe I’ll be good enough at any. Like I wanted to try crotchet and I couldn’t get it the first few times so I gave up.

Oh I can 100% relate to that. I tried to learn to knit during the pandemic and I legitimately can not Pearl. Purl? Whatever. I gave up. And then my 16 year old got the hang of it in 5 minutes 😒

No I love trying new things . & I don’t think that it’s realistic to have high expectations since naturally most people aren’t going to be good at what they try to do the first time around or even the first couple of times around . I’m horrible at golfing and tennis is a bit better & they’re both sports that I’d like to be decent at but as of now I’m not. this makes sense because I’ve not practiced either a good amount of times to excel at it either. There are things that I do excel at like speaking publicly and I like horseback riding very much etc but I’ve done those things a significant amount of times and so I’m very good at them and would expect to probably be all most flawless while engaging in each area under normal circumstances of course. I see trying out potentially new hobbies also as activities that may or may not turn into passions , loves etc … in time. I also view it as a way that we grow, develop and find out who we truly are 💕💕

I LOVE trying new hobbies and watch myself getting better and I get a huge ego boost when I’ve learnt how to do something I previously didn’t know and what I tell myself is “everyone starts from the bottom. I’ll get there. I’ll keep trying and I’ll get there”. And yesterday was a huge one for me because I’ve just finished my L2 in salsa lessons (each level goes for 6m) and now I’m moving into 2.5 which L3 is the last level that’s considered advanced/a good dancer, (who doesn’t need anymore lessons but consistent practice to not forget) as opposed to intermediate which I am now…I’m SO proud of myself 😂 if the hobby will actually help me in my every day life and not “just a hobby” it forces me to become better. But it also depends on the hobby…. If it’s something like crochet/knitting/painting I know I’ll drop that asap, because for me there is no benefit in learning how/be good at that. Other things like learning nails, or how to cut my boys/Hubbys hair- they’re convenient.

I recommend abstract art or collarge paper cut, it perfect in the way you want it to be, it quite really freestyle and relaxing no right or wrong

Yes omg if I’m not instantly an expert at it I wanna throw it out haha. I would advise crochet again though, maybe using YouTube tutorials to watch how it’s done? I managed to get the hang of crochet years ago and still use YouTube to refresh myself on certain techniques etc because I find it so much easier to see it done!
