If he's named as the father on the certificate that gives him rights & also you re: child support (if things end up that way).

Are you guys separated ? Even if his name is not on the birth certificate he can fight for parental rights , but having his name on will help you with child support. Me personally I have added my children’s dad’s name on the certificate so in case anything happens to me .They have someone to look after them .
Thank you. We arent together currently but i do want to give our child both of our last names. I dont necessarily want to put him on the certificate just yet.. i may change my mind in the future dependent on his role in our childs life

Just so you know that if you later decide to put your child’s father on the birth certificate then it’s a new process which I think you need to have certain legal documents proving he is the father like DNA test results
I just wouldn’t double barrel, personally. If you’re not with the baby’s dad then I’d keep the baby’s surname as your surname.
