Some do fail, thatās not super uncommon
I've had 2 successful epidurals and had my last 1 fail due to my spine being to close together in that area. I felt everything except my legs š¤£
Oh gosh! Assuming thereās no way to get it early so that if it does fail they can redo it? Or is that not an option?
@Haley so honestly I got mine at 5/6 cm and I didn't realize it failed til I was pushing and felt everything. And they did mine 3 times because they couldn't get it in the right location
@Haley you can ask for it at any point during labor. Itās up to you. Just sometimes itās takes 30mins-1hr for the anesthesiologist to get to the room to place it. It just depends on the process and your body
@Joye This is good to know! Thank you!
@Diana super helpful, thank you!
I felt the pressure of the contractions at the end but it was manageable
Weird they gave her morphine ... That's how they stopped my preterm labor. Usually it's fentanyl that they give for pain relief.
@Brianne Thatās strange! Yeah she said morphine and then something that started with an S. It made her super sick and throw up the entire time and she pushed for four hours. She said she could still feel her legs with epidural and was able to navigate to different positions on the bed
@Haley I had an epidural with my first. I don't recall feeling anything but I could definitely still move and reposition when needed. I only pushed maybe 20 minutes This was also almost 12 years ago! My second daughter who is almost 8 I didn't have any pain intervention. I pushed 4-5 times. And my 16 month old son I had pitocin but no pain intervention. I pushed for about 10 minutes I think.
@Brianne wow! All three of those sound like the best case scenarios! Iām okay with feeling my legs but i definitely donāt want to feel anything else š
@Haley the pitocin made the whole thing very very intense. I was already in early labor but my blood pressure was high so they wanted to speed things up. With my second daughter I had been dilated to a 4 since 32 weeks. I had spontaneous water eruption around 7 am got to the hospital about 8:05 and she was born at 8:24 she came so fast. Too fast. I was hemorrhaging after that one. Pitocin was administered afterwards. I really hope this one is spontaneous and no need for the pitocin. I have already prepared myself for the possibility of an epidural if I have to have pitocin. My body almost couldn't handle it. My hip flexor was beyond over extended I couldn't walk for 2 weeks. So the labors and deliveries were great but after that is when the complications came.
@Haley I also had prodromal labor with my first two. Basically meaning I kept going into labor for no reason and it would abruptly stop. I was dilated early with both. 28 weeks with my first and our on bed rest until 36 weeks. She didn't come until 40+5. 2/32 weeks with my second and almost didn't stop it. Bed rest till 36 she came at 39+3 my son was born 39+4. I'm currently 36+2.

Iāve heard they can lower the dose so you still have some control
