Antidepressants

I was on antidepressants (Citalopram) before I was pregnant and ended up coming off them by myself just before I found out I was pregnant. I’m now starting to feel depressed again.. so thinking of starting them again before baby comes to be in the best headspace for my little one and my partner. Is this a good idea? Is it safe? I’m currently 36 weeks.

Most certainly consult your GP before restarting antidepressants. They tend to have to prescribe different medications as some of them are not safe to take while pregnant and they run clinics for pregnant women on antidepressants in some trust to monitor closely. Just give a call to GP or at least the midwife on Monday to consult xxx

Sertraline is considered safe during pregnancy. I am in the same boat, they told me not to stop it but I didn’t want to be in them when I found out I was pregnant but they did say it was safe for pregnancy so maybe give them a call

I was told to definitely not stop taking mine. I tried and kept getting brain zaps!! No one understands what I mean by brain zaps unless you’ve tried to come off them! Ring the GP on Monday and get yourself booked in for an emergency appointment. They’ll also add you to the post natal mental health team who are bloody incredible round my area! When I had my first they’d come round make me a HOT brew and made sure I drank it hot 🤣 and also had some lovely adult conversations which you lack once baby is here. Speak up about it to the professionals they won’t see you as anything other than human ❤️ no less of a mother but more of a mummy that is wanting to better herself for her and baby xx

I was put on sertraline at 16 weeks and been on it the whole time. Talk to GP but sertraline is considered safest
