Help with son education

Ok so first off I know he young and it’s not many will see it as important but I do and I need advice on how to go about this. My son is 6 . He been behind from the start. He had occupational, speech and physical therapy. We are still waiting to get him evaluated. They are so backed that we waited three years and in July we will get him tested. This is mostly for people to stop saying things like “ you just have to try harder” to my son. He trying his best and we all are. It makes him frustrated and I hope to have this done they will stop and actually be a teacher and help. Not all the teacher cause honestly most of them are really really good it’s like one or two out off all of them. I work full time and my husband about to work full time. Our kids are in after school currently. I work with them when I get home but because I have to make dinner and everything I get 15 minute with each of them . I got him an iPad for Christmas . He asked for one and we had one prior but it broke. I thought it’s a perfect chance to put some helpful games on there like I did with my oldest. And maybe get a subscription for a fun educational program he can do in afterschool. He is behind I red word and reading and speech . I need to work so I can’t be a SAHM . I get panic attacks if I don’t work and make an income. To afford their afterschool program which we would need regardless of full or part time, I need to work full time. I need help with program I can buy or things that would help him with his education that isn’t to difficult as he still working fine motor skills. He pretty smart but because of being behind from walking till now, everything is just on a slower pace for him. We are working on using scissors and writing together by writing letter and doing some crafts during the weekend and got him left handed and right handed scissors. He uses both depending on the task. He was left handed only but school tried to get him to use his right hand and well now he confused and I am confused on which to buy and what to do .

Can't help much with anything except to suggest looking into JumpStart. My knowledge of them is going back a bit, but from what I remember all learning is done through games. I remember when I was really little my mum got a computer game to help with my typing. The company came up again while I was in school for therapeutic rec.

Duolingo ABC. Its free. Depending on where his reading is it might be too easy for him (good confidence boost if it is) but it has a library of readalong books that you unlock as you go or can just unlock the 'library'. It has a mix of letters, phonics, sight words which feed into the stories which you interact with in different ways.

Also the BBC has some good learning resources on their website. Worth checking out if you haven't.

What I did from the moment my daughter was born is read and talk to her. Don’t talk to them in baby talk or lots of slang as it can be confusing when they don’t find these words in actual texts(school books and such). We did a program called “The Million Word Gap”. Basically you talk to them as you would an adult. Using all the language you can. If they don’t understand a word explain it to them the best you can. My daughter was talking in full sentences by age two and no baby talk either. Now she is 9 and in Advanced placement she is reading at a middle school level and collects text books for “light reading”. Start out small wit your son and find books on things he’s into. Make it an adventure. My daughter, for a while, only wanted electronics until I found some books about her favorite things (animals, she wants to be a vet). Now she buys National Geographic dictionary type books to study everything she can about them. It started with a love of Marine Biology and evolved from that

It’s not easy but it doesn’t require drilling them for hours. It does take time, patience and lots of love and encouragement. I told my daughter that every book is a new adventure. So she goes adventuring everyday to far away exotic places. Hopefully you get the help you need! Best to you and your family.
