Low lying placenta

Hi everyone, just wanted to get everyone’s experience with low lying placenta! At our 20 week scan, the sonographer confirmed low lying placenta and has booked me for another scan at 32 weeks to check on it. I had a c section first time round and see it’s common for it to occur. I’m also not worried about having to have another c section as I was planning one anyway. But in my head I’d thought likely be around 38 weeks rather than potentially anywhere between 36-38 which is essentially a whole month 😅 in terms of planning for work/maternity leave, any idea on when would be best to book from? Also anything else to look out for other than anaemia/iron levels, blood loss?

Hey, I had a low lying placenta at the 20 week scan. At 32 weeks it had moved up so a “natural” birth was possible, although, I ended up with a c section anyway. It was my first pregnancy. In terms of work, I finished for maternity leave 4 weeks before my due date and ended up having a planned C-section at 39+4 weeks because they said baby was going to be huge-9lb plus. They were totally wrong and he came out at 7lb!

I had a low lying placenta and at my 32 week scan they said it had moved up and i could go natural ( first birth) i ended up having contractions at 39+1 and during but baby was in distress and got took for an emergency section my placenta didn’t actually move so was coving my cervix so baby couldn’t get out. most of the time if it’s just low lying it will move as the womb expands but i had partial placenta praevia

I had it up until I have birth at 37+6 due to haemorrhaging at 35 weeks because of major placenta previa. They put me down for an elective section. My waters broke that same day I was having the section. So I was first on list during to how high risk I was. Hopefully everything goes okay and it moves for you❤️

I also had one at my 20 week scan and then at my 32 it had moved.. Its really common for it to move x

I had complete placenta Previa. Found at 16 weeks, confirmed at 20 weeks. Had a scan at 32 weeks and was completely covering, another at 36 weeks where it had completely moved. I still opted for a C-section and had been booked at 32 weeks for 39 weeks. Luckily had no bleeding throughout. I was told when I still have Previa that they would deliver between 37-39 weeks all being well so I booked Mat Leave to start at 37 weeks

I also booked my maternity leave at 34 weeks, you do what’s best for you and baby. But I’d say if it doesn’t move. Booked it between 32/34 weeks as you should have another scan then to see if it’s moved or not xx

Mine started as low lying and I ended up with placenta praevia, however I was offered a scan every 4 weeks from when it was discovered. There is a chance as your pregnancy progresses and your uterus grows it will pull your placenta up and away from the Cervix. I had a planned CS at 35+2 but that was because of other factors on top of the praevia.

Thank you! I have a consultant appointment at the end of Jan (because of previous labour/csection), and a scan booked to check where the placenta is at 32 weeks but I’m just trying to be accommodating to my work by letting them know sooner rather than later but also don’t want to work up to 38 weeks and find I have a section booked at 36 😅 Having to have a section really doesn’t bother me as I was always planning on one and didn’t want a vbac anyway. Other than the advice of ‘watching out for bleeding’ and ‘eating more iron rich foods’ I just wanted to see if anyone else experienced any other symptoms or had any tips!

@Sam no heavy lifting/ strenuous activity or exercise. And if it’s still on the cards no more sex 😝
