Help!! Need desperate advice!

Yesterday my house flooded due to an extremely blocked waste pipe. While I was showering my partner and son were in the living room playing. Some how the water from my shower caused the toilet to start pouring basically sewage throughout the house, my partner screamed for me to come down and help and I barefoot and half dressed ran through the dirty water and my son (16 months old) had slipped and was covered in it as was my partner. It had gotten all over us and all over my son who may have gotten some into his mouth. I immediately got him in a bath but because I couldn’t drain the water he was basically just bathing in dirty water. We ran to my partners mums house and got all showered and cleaned there while my family cleaned the house. Because the water soaked into the carpet (without my knowledge) my son has been crawling around on it and parts are still damp with it. Can he get sick from this?? I know the floor was mopped but I have a feeling the same mop head that soaked the dirty water up was used to ‘clean’ the floors which my son has been crawling and walking on. I don’t know what to do as there isn’t anywhere we can go and it’s December so money is tight and we can’t stay out the house. I’m more worried about my son’s health if he’s crawling on the damp and if the floor hasn’t been cleaned properly. What could happen I’m so scared.

You have to get the carpet dry before it molds! It would be worth it to rip out the carpet dry the floor and get new carpet! If you can afford it. If not dry thoroughly and get it cleaned! I certainly would keep the kid off the floor until this is remedied. The hard floors should be safe for the kid after a good scrubbing.

@Anna Sadly can’t afford to replace but I’m hoping insurance will cover it!!😭 do you think that my son will be okay that it got on his skin slightly ? It’s too late to give him a bath as he’s fast asleep and had two today already but I’ve wiped him over with a wipe and changed his clothes😭😭😭xx

He should be fine! The biggest risk is it getting in his mouth or getting mouldy.

Can you rent a carpet shampooer?

I'm confused.. Are we talking about carpets that're wet from sewage water?
