Big question

If you were told to give up your right to have firearms- the whole country- no more guns whatsoever- and there will be no more school shootings. Would you do it.

As someone who lives in the U.K. my mind is blown that people won’t give up the right to firearms to protect innocent children 🤯

Unfortunately no. Even if this was a possible scenario, the only way i as a petite woman could possibly defend myself against a larger woman or ANY man that may try to hurt me or my son would be to have a firearm. It is the greatest equalizer. And in this scenario, youre assuming criminals would also give up their weapons. Which they wouldnt. So then id be left weaponless and vulnerable to those people to do whatever they please.

If they told me I had to give up eating sushi for the rest of my life to keep kids safe. I would do it. Absolutely. Literally would do whatever it took.

It literally worked in the UK. Firearms were banned after a school shooting and people gave up their guns 🤷🏻‍♀️ It can be done. People just don’t want to.

But in the uk there is still knife crime and innocent children get hurt with knives. It’s not the weapon it’s society

@Cierra you say this but in the U.K. there was a mass school shooting almost THIRTY years we as a country demanded change! It became ILLEGAL to have a private owned handgun and required shotguns to be licensed Want to know how many school shootings there’s been since? ZERO! Of course there’s still criminals with guns I am not naive to think otherwise ironically though I don’t walk around fearing I’ll get shot 🤷🏻‍♀️

@Marilyn yes but it’s much harder to kill a bunch of children with a knife in comparison to a gun

@Marilyn how many mass stabbings and mass murders have there been in uk schools? I’d hazard a guess much MUCH less than school shootings People will find a weapon in everything of course society is the problem.. but surely removing the weapon is the first port of call? 🤷🏻‍♀️

@Marilyn while that is true. A knife isnt killing multiple upon multiple people at a single time. At best they are taking down 2. Maybe. Mass shootings are classified as 3 or more people at one time being injured or killed during an event.

@Amy also did the same thing in Australia. They actually paid people to give up their guns. Guess whose also not had another school shooting. You’ll only need 1 guess 😂

@Cierra if everyone gave up their guns and the laws were strictly zero tolerance on all guns. You wouldn’t have to worry about having an ‘equalizer’ it’s simple… the more people that have access to guns the more reason you will need a gun to feel safe

@Cierra so right now you have to defend yourself with a gun a lot?

@Amy unfortunately https://apnews.com/article/uk-stabbing-attack-southport-far-right-violence-a2e43d0d49776c138790d083713873f7 there was one recently

@Marilyn 1 mass stabbing in comparison to the 488 mass shootings so far this year in the US 🤔

@Marilyn that wasn’t in a school!!!!! It happened during the school holidays So again I ask you how many mass stabbing and mass murders have there been in UK schools

The only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is by owning a gun and being trained to use it

Adding more guns to protect from guns is like throwing more matches at a fire to put it out in my eyes. 🤷🏻‍♀️

@Marilyn statistically knife and gun crime are both higher in the US.

@Marilyn as tragic as this is… it’s no where near as frequent as school shootings in America. Thankfully it’s not on the same scale at all!! Still a problem? Absolutely!

What kind of a Q is this ?? outside of US only crazy people and farmers own guns

I’m torn. Because as a smaller woman with a small child, how could I protect myself if needed? That would be my only reason. Is for protection not for hunting or anything else. But I would do anything to protect the children. It’s such a hard question for me because there are so many parts to it. But yes, I would do anything to stop school shootings

It looks like the argument from most of the pro-gun women are that they are prioritizing wanting guns to “feel protected” rather than be protected.

@Cierra Im right there with you! Guns in Brazil are illegal and we still had mass shootings in schools. The people that do that do not care about it being legal or not and they wouldn’t give up their guns 🤷🏻‍♀️ If there was a perfect world that we knew for a fact nobody was going to have a gun then maybe I would give up and I would learn how to throw hands and fight like the old times 😂 I do wish the US had stricter laws to who can buy guns though, maybe pass some gun safety classes before, have a mental health check, fully register and then be able to purchase a gun. The background check is just not enough in my opinion.

@Ana Mooree in the US of the hundreds of mass shootings we have had. Only 16 involved illegally obtained firearms. Nearly ALL shootings were committed with guns that were legally obtained.

@Renee frrr, I’ve never felt the need to hold anything more than a kitchen knife to feel protected but that’s because I luckily don’t have a fear of someone entering my house with a gun…

@Renee I will have to disagree with you! Last year I was in the neighborhood gym by myself and a drunk man broke the main door and got inside. My phone was on the bench by the door and I wouldn’t be able to get close to it to call 911 if I didn’t have my gun with me and actively threat to shoot him if he kept walking towards me. He wasn’t armed but Im 4”11 and 140 lbs and that man was at least 6” and only God knows what he would do if I was defenseless. I live in gated neighborhood and those things NEVER happened, this guy was a neighbor 🤷🏻‍♀️ What would’ve done if that was you?

@SquishyMommy1 Oh I know that! Im pro gun but I don’t love the system over here. It shouldn’t be easy to purchase a gun like it is at all. The fact that I can go to Walmart and buy a gun its mind blowing. I do support a strict control and a mandatory safe for anyone that buys a gun. Im completely against military grade weapons for normal citizens as well.

@Ana Moore I’d use my pepper spray and run like hell. I’m also less than 140lbs, been threatened with a knife and by drunk/high men, been stalked, and lived in more dangerous neighborhoods and felt much more afraid of carrying a gun and having it used against me than having someone else have one and use it on me. I also find it odd that at the gym by yourself that you had your gun on you but not your phone. I’m not saying you’re lying but this has to be a major anomaly as who has a gun on them while working out but not their phone?

@Ana Moore I would feel unsafe if I knew someone was carrying a gun at the gym. Thankfully my gym doesn’t allow firearms. I feel unsafe knowing there’s so many concealed carry when I enter places. I have a stalker. I also currently have active death threats that have been made against my child. A gun would absolutely not make me feel any safer then the bat’leth I have hanging above my door that is within reach and on display.

@Renee This is not abnormal for people that own guns and understand about gun safety. As a gun owner Im not supposed to leave my gun out of my reach. That is exactly what prevents your gun to be used without your consent or used against you. Im 100% more aware of my gun if Im armed than ID or phone. I also carry my pepper spray but that day I left it in my bike outside and if you try to walk by the space you aimed your spray your eyes will burn SO much that you will not go too far.

There are multiple ways to protect yourself as a small woman. My husband works in a state penitentiary with very large criminals that have weapons and fight sometimes. There are multiple women in there that are in the low 100 pounds and 5 feet or smaller that can bring down these men that are over 6ft tall. Just need the tactical/self defense training

@Ana Moore it’s also much more likely that you accidentally drop your gun at the gym and hurt yourself or someone else there than have to draw it on a drunk man who made it past your gated community and into your gym that you happened to be alone at and with your gun at hand. Unbelievable statistical anomaly and the odds of it happening again even more so. Again, this is an argument for makes you feel safe than is safe.

Criminals still get guns? Look at states with super strict gun control. The real solution is better mental health.

@SquishyMommy1 Thankfully I live in Texas and I feel very safe with the people that are armed. I know yall get scared by people that are reckless but EVERYONE that I know that own guns are extremely responsible and aware of our surroundings and we would NEVER use as first option. The guy was threatening to throw a weight on me by the time I did the 911 call and dispatch was fully aware that I was armed and had no intentions to even warn shoot until cops get on site. Im glad that you have whatever you feel comfortable to protect your family. I wouldn’t live with any threats against my son 🤷🏻‍♀️ Anyone that knows me or my family knows what will happen if they try to test their luck.

@Ali Oh absolutely. I just know I couldn’t and Im not just going to let myself become the next number on the statistics.

@Renee There is no way to accidentally drop a gun that is correctly strapped. Again, some of us are not just reckless gun owners.

@Ana Moore I’m not scared by the wreckless. I’m scared by the actual statistics of those that aren’t wreckless and being gun owners in general and the realities of how much more dangerous it IS to own a gun. My children aren’t even allowed to visit homes where they have firearms.

We could legit stop school shootings with armed veterans on campuses. They are trained more than our police officers and most of them don’t have jobs. They have hostage training and don’t surrender if captured. I mean if you call the police they might not come to a school shooting. I can find the article if you want.

@SquishyMommy1 and this is the beauty of this country: FREEDOM. You do whatever you think is right to protect you and your family 🤞🏼

@Ana Moore but I’m sure as an “extremely responsible” person who “understands about gun safety” you already knew that.

@Renee Anyone that has the proper training to strap a gun knows about this. Honestly you are just showing to me how uneducated you are about guns with all these silly provocative comments. Like I said above, there should be an extensive training before someone buying a gun so the regular person like you don’t buy the first holster that they find on Amazon.

@Ana Moore the ‘beauty’ of FREEDOM that comes at a cost… the cost of innocent lives of children just going to school to play and learn! Is this price worth it?!?

You are absolutely twisting my words. I was replying to the girl that said she doesn’t feel safe around a gun and doesn’t allow her children to be around it. No reason to be petty 😘

@Ana Moore although I agree with you that if someone is a gun owner they should be properly educated, I’m going to have to disagree that a gun can become dislodged. Also that people who think they placed it correctly may not have for countless reasons as human error occurs in almost everything. I’m going with Google on this one.✌️

@Renee believe anything you want girl! There is never too much safety whenever it comes to a firearm and everything that you point out is serious and solely responsibility of those who decides to own and carry. Just wanted to let you know that not everyone is a horrible human to decide to own a gun and many of us would protect a stranger any day.

As a hunter, who can provide meat for my family, I will not. I’ve lived in sketchy neighborhoods and felt safe at night knowing I could protect myself (and now my child) if someone came into our building.

@Ana Moore this is how I feel. I rather protect a fellow family in a grocery store when a corrupt person comes into our shooting

@Amy that ignores my point. Without a gun, i am defenseless against anyone stronger than me who would do harm to myself or my family, weapon or no weapon. If any man wanted to kill or harm me with his bare hands, there is not a thing i could do. A gun is an equalizer for people like me. And for women in general, actually

@Jaclyn what an ignorant thing to say. No one wants to or expects to be attacked. But as a responsible gun owner, i will be prepared to protect my son and myself if God forbid something happened. The whole topic of the lriginal post is about mass shootings. Mass shootings occur in gun free zones for a reason. Because criminals dont follow laws.

@incognito how many criminals do you know that are so law abiding that they'd give up their guns because the government said so🤣thats delusional. Its already illegal to murder people yet criminals do it everyday.
