Extra fluid

I went for my 28 week midwife appointment today and when she was feeling for baby she thinks I have extra amniotic fluid. Baby and bump are normal size for the number of weeks I am. Been booked for an extra scan this Friday to have a look. Has anyone else been told this and how did it go? A little worried x

I had extra fluid with my firstborn. I was induced at 38 weeks, he was born perfectly healthy. He was 6lbs 1 so on the smaller side but not extreme, and I just had loads and loads of fluid when my waters broke. Midwife said she’d never seen so much and called it a tsunami! Wouldn’t worry yet as feeling can be really inaccurate!! xx

@Becca did you get extra scans as well?

@Rebecca yes, the extra fluid was found during a scan and then I was scanned every 3 weeks from then x

What’s wrong with having extra fluid though?

@Incognito too much extra fluid may increase risk of preterm birth before 37 weeks of pregnancy. And also premature rupture of the membranes. That’s why they monitor with scans etc

@Incognito it can cause growth restrictions if baby doesn’t have much space to grow because of all the fluid, and it can make you high risk for cord prolapse, waters breaking early & placental abruption
