@Conchi thanks I have enquired about it privately. My toddler also had it and they snipped hers at the hospital (was a battle for them to do it though) but this time they don’t care because she’s a good weight 😅
My baby has been diagnosed recently as we had problem with latch. A health visitor had referred us so for now we're waiting. Also not sure how long wait will be or what they will say. In case of difficulties I'll also go private. Good luck.
Yes! My Feb 23 and Nov 24 babies both had a tongue tie, we had both of them cut privately within a week or so of them being born x
Yes! Both babies - August 2022 and November 2024 - had ties and were cut privately. The NHS diagnosed my first daughters at birth, wouldn't cut it then or when I saw them again about it a few weeks later. Ended up having it cut at 6 weeks old and thank god we did as I was ready to give up breastfeeding but it made the world of difference! The NHS didn't pick up my second daughters, we took her private today at 4 weeks old and they diagnosed and cut it the same day. And already noticed such an improvement! All tounge ties should be cut really, they can cause issues later on otherwise. I don't know why the NHS is failing so badly to support mothers and babies with this issue. I'd definitely recommend going private. Hope you get seen soon. X
@Saffron thank you. I agree how poor the nhs are about it. It stopped me breastfeeding this time round as her latch was so bad and it was really hurting but I feel like it’s really effecting her and I just want it sorted. X
I'm sorry to hear you're both struggling with it at the moment 😓 it's definitely worth going private, even just for some advice. Have you found somewhere you could go? X
Definitely go private if you can. We had an appointment yesterday with a private tongue tie specialist and she was amazing. She really took the time to explain everything and gave us loads of advice and techniques. My little one has a tongue tie, but she recommended not cutting it until we do more work on tension etc I just felt like she really wanted what was best for our baby. It’s been a day and we’re already seeing an improvement in her feeding. I just couldn’t imagine that being the case with the NHS tbh, but I could be wrong x
I complained about wanting a referral for my son’s tongue tie at my first midwife appointment and I got an appointment to do it on the 19th day after the appointment. NHS isn’t that terrible, they just happen to be slow. Good luck X
@Saffron I have thank you. I have a few which is local to me so just gone with the most popular one. X
@Bee thanks. Glad you’ve had a positive experience with the NHS. They definitely aren’t terrible they cut my little girls in 2022 but unfortunately won’t this time round. I’ve mentioned it to every midwife and my health visitor but won’t refer me because of the weight gain. The nhs just aren’t unfortunately educated on tongue ties. I don’t mind paying so will get it sorted privately. X
For now I can recommend you using the nipple shields as it made a difference for our breastfeeding. I'm using Medela ones. Also Mam are good. Breastfeeding wasn't possible without them at least for now until we're waiting for tongue to be cut.
Glad you found one, hope you get to see them soon and things get easier for you both. X
I think it os ridiculous that the NHS does nothing about it I would go private if I had to. Some kids may have issues with it later on when weaning starts
