Supply

My supply has decreased over the last few days and my period started today. What does this mean, am I going to dry up completely. My baby is combi fed and I express but recently it become alot more painful (in the breast not the nipples) to pump. Is this what happens when your period return? And has the milk dried up because of the period I or the period because of the milk decreasing? I'm upset about it, my LO is only 3 months and I planned on pumping a lot longer. My diet is poor and I don't drink as much as I once did. Just feels impossible to find the time for it all lately as baby is needing more from me. Any information would be appreciated

I find that my supply dropped before my period and the first days of my period and then picked up again. Eat more drink more and see how it is once you've finished your period. I kept lots of snack food in my fridge to keep me going during that time! Mini omelettes and such!

Thank you! My appetite is rubbish at the moment but I'll try!

Following because this has happened to me for the last few days too! Just came on my period this morning 😩

Your supply can go up and down during the month due to hormone fluctuations, that's pretty normal. Often if you stop breastfeeding/pumping overnight then your hormone levels change which makes your periods return. Doesn't mean you can't continue to breastfeed though, just make sure you keep up the demand to keep up the supply (i.e. keep feeding/pumping, more often if necessary, to maintain your supply)

Make sure you’re drinking plenty. My supply dropped when I started to forget about drinking as much! I’ve found having a big water bottle helps me to drink enough because I’m not constantly filling it. When I started drinking lots again my supply when back up! Remember that you can’t provide for baby unless you’re looking after yourself too so even if that means putting them down while you grab a quick something to eat/drink then sometimes that has to be the case!
