Frustrated at the breast

I’ve been BF for 4 weeks straight and she’s has been fine on it. All of a sudden I’ve noticed she will start fine, then around 5/10 mins in, she becomes very frustrated. She will still have the breast in the mouth but will start crying/straining/clawing at my breast. I take her off (sometimes she comes off by herself) but as soon as I do, she starts crying, but she does burp. After she burps, she still seems a little frustrated but does settle, sometimes writing and suckling for more - I put her back on and she does the same thing! 🤯🙃 Am I doing something wrong?

My little man does this, think its because he either needs to poop/fart or i have nothing in the milk tanks. Have you swapped breasts when she starts getting frustrated with one?

I think around 4 to 6 weeks they have a little growth spurt so she will probabky be trying to stimulate the breast to get more milk for tomorrow . Putting her order in as they say lol

@Kerry yeah I have, and she still does it. At first I thought it was just my right breast, maybe it was too full and the milk flow was too fast, but she started doing on the left breast too now x

@Rachel i have also heard that it could be what Alana said. We are combi feeding so when he gets overly fussy i give him a bottle which may not help my supply tbf. Tough to know what our babies problems truly are sometimes 😮‍💨 xx

@Kerry oh I agree!! If only they came with a speech bubble 😂. Xx

Feel like you've described my little one.. what position are you feeding in? I've found that sometimes changing the position helps... I also have the issue of a fast flow 😬 she's usually more settled if she's on me... Read online that offering more skin to skin can also help x

I mostly do cross cradle, but I’ve tried her in rugby hold and she still did it. I would like to do the laid back position but with her being a newborn she obvs can’t hold her head up properly yet xx

@Rachel how do you feed overnight? When they're newborn they'll do a sort of crawl to the boob, you'll be surprised they're stronger than we think 😅 My LO will lift her own head and move it to find boob, might be worth trying to see if yours will, you might be surprised xx

@Rachel we've done laid back since the first feed on the operating table. They definitely can do it x

@Billie I feel like I’ve tried all positions. It makes me sad cuz I don’t know why she gets so frustrated x

@Alana im going to try this again then. My breasts are quite large and I feel like she basically just buries her face in it if I do the laid back position xx

Honestly ,my boobs are huge and she manages fine, as long as theur nose is clear then they can breath. That's why most baby's noses slant slightly upwards. Make sure she still has her head slightly back and nostrils are clear of your breast 😊

@Alana thanks Alana xx I’ve just seen a video about this - saying it could also be that she wants to be comforted by being on the breast, but could be latching when I’m having a let down phase and is hence making her frustrated x

@Alana update : I tried the laid back position all night - not 1 bit of frustration from her at all! I’d call that success! 👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽

When mine gets fussy it's definitely because she wants to be on the breast but doesn't want any more milk!! (Usually tired and wanting to sleep). I switch her to my left which has much slower flow and sometimes she will settle there. Otherwise I just comfort her another way if she's still frustrated!
