Breastfeeding painful

We are 7 weeks on Wednesday when does it get easier my nipples are so sore. I’m honestly about to give up. I constantly spend my time latching her on and off in hope that we can be more comfortable. Seems to work for a couple of sucks then painful again.

Oh hun, that's awful. I'm really sorry that you're dealing with that. It really shouldn't be painful after the first couple of weeks. Have you been referred to the infant feeding team through the midwives? You can access the feeding team, even after discharge. They can do an oral assessment to check baby for tongue tie and help with any latch issues. We were seen within 2 days of asking for help. Our health visitor team also has a feeding expert who came for a home visit. In the meantime, could you/partner/family pick up some nipple shields to try? There is guidance online on how to measure yourself for them. Also, when I was too sore to continue, I pumped, and my husband fed her. I only latched her once or twice a day until I'd healed xx

Would definitely second nipple shields, they've been a life saver! Still uncomfortable at times but not as sore. I'm combi feeding so when they feel more sore then I have a break and give formula instead. You could you pump and feed that in a bottle as Would likely be less sore that way

Is it only painful when baby’s latched? What sort of pain is it?x

I use nipple shields, been trying without but just gets too sore so I would defo get some, think my partner got me some from boots. Also, second expressing to bottle and having a break of feeding so someone else can and also top up with formula if needs be. Sending love, it's a tough thing to do xx

I use nipple shields x my girl was premature and she struggled to latch on so we used them since she was born . And my nipples are quite flat so it works for us . No pain whatsoever x I keep trying to get her on without them but no luck

Silver nipple cups!! These saved my nipples and our breast feeding journey. Pop them on inbetween every feed until you’re more comfortable. Within 2 days my nipples had completely healed (they were bleeding and scabby)!! Honestly, I cannot recommend them enough
