Potty training

Yes it’s normal. My son turns 4 in July as well. Peed in the toilet like a champ but would go crap himself all the time. I tried everything just like you and he was close to getting kicked out his preschool because he was the only kid not making any progress. The only thing that worked was……enemas. The small ones you get from the drug store. I used the pedialax brand. Before he went to bed and after his bath I’d have him get knees to chest on the floor and administer one. I called it the “poop medicine” I told him, “When you hold your poop this is what we have to do” set him on the toilet immediately after and wait and read a book or talk to him. Makes them have to poop immediately. It comes in a pack of 6 and I only needed to use 3 before my son decided he would rather just stop pooping his pants lol

OMG same! I dunno what to do. His pediatrician said holding poop is BAD and can damage the intestines, so I just let him poop in the diaper, atleast he is pooping regularly! I have tried everything!! He is otherwise peeing in the toilet and doesn’t wear diaper to daycare at all.

I don’t know if it’s normal but my son who will also be 4 in July still struggles to poop on the potty as well and will hide to poop!

My son has regressed in peeing in the toilet and refused to poop. He’ll go occasionally but from what I’ve read punishment (time out) doesn’t help and can even deter them more. I’d try to get to the bottom of as to why he’s scared and work for there.

This may not help but I’ve heard the slipping out of their butt part can scare them (and not having it stay mushy and warm and comforting next to their butts) so we did a demonstration with playdough (brown color) holding it in our fist and showing “this is poop in your butt and we want to squeeze it out” (then squeeze out the playdough and have it drop into a bottle) “and let it go into the potty” ..something about this really connected it for my kid. Also pretty important to stay calm and cool. If you’re nervous, they’re nervous and sphincter tightens up (aka they hold in poopy).
