What happens if I stop harvesting colostrum pre-birth?

I started harvesting colostrum at the beginning of the month and it appears I am quite the cow. I’ve got a LOT of syringes, which is great - planning to bring some to the hospital and leave some for emergencies in the next 6 months, etc. My question is - I think I can stop harvesting now in regard to having enough of a supply before the baby is due (will be 40 weeks on Friday this week, but we’ll see as have had so signs so far), but if I stop, will it cause issues trying to restart again when the baby arrives? Particularly if the baby keeps me waiting another couple of weeks? Should I just keep harvesting a little every couple of days?

I’m also interested in this, as I’m in a similar position and can’t find anything online. Curious to know if it will effect my milk supply in the longer run!

I’m in a similar position! I’ve dropped to doing it every other day instead and it doesn’t seem to be effecting me

@Beth I got 3ml a couple of days ago, didn’t harvest yesterday, and just got 8ml today!! So dropping to every other day seems like it might be counter productive for me (although I could go for less time I guess)

Personally there was absolutely no link between the amount I could collect before my baby was born (my first baby 3 years ago) as I didn’t collect any.. and I breastfed him exclusively for 2 years + :) x

There isn't a link between harvesting colostrum and post birth production because your body goes through hormonal changes after birth which triggers things. You can stop if you want or reduce!

There's no correlation in how much you can express antenatally and your ability to breastfeed so I wouldn't worry if you decide to stop x
