Tongue Tie, Frequent feeding Exclusive Breastfeeding

Just wondering if anyone else is in the same position. My LO is almost 12 weeks and I kind of got use to her feeding every 1-2hrs. Shes gaining weight properly, seems to get on well with feeds (I exclusively breastfeed). But I see lots of people and baby books saying that babies tend to feed every 3-4 hours at this point, which makes me a bit concerned as to why she wants to feed so frequently. When we are out and about she can get on okay for 2-3hrs and we do have better days. But most days its 1-2, which is very demanding for me. I want to try to pump to be able to have some bottles for when we are out, or so her dad can feed her, but I barely ever get the chance as shes feeding so much. I have seen that sometimes tongue ties can cause them to not get enough therefore feeding more? She seems fine otherwise so Im not sure. At night she sleeps 4-5hours then shes up every 2hrs, so Id say shes doing well in that regard. Anyone else? Is this normal? Or should I look into tongue ties?

My boy is 8 weeks old n feeds more or less every hour too!!!! N at night wakws up every hour too!!! Struggling with sleep n also its very demanding for me too!!! Cant do much other than feed this lil one!! He is also gaining weight!!! Is there anything to worry??

Mine is similar to yours and we've had no issues with feeding. I would say it's normal.

I hope it will level out soon. Id love it to be at least 2-3hrs. Barely leaves me enough time to burp and change her, let alone get anything done around the house.

I'm convinced my little boy would feed every minute of the day if he could, he literally never refuses a feed even though he can happily go 3-4 hours between feeds if I offer it early (because we're going out or he needs help pooing for example) he always happily takes it so I wouldn't worry too much some babies just like nursing more than others

@Amber yeah I swear she could go for longer, as when we are out she can go a lot longer without, but it does make me more nervous for outings, puts me on edge thinking she will want feeding right when are in the middle of something. She does do feeds to help her 💩 sometimes. And comfort feeds that last less than 5 mins, although the dummy helped replace some of that, which is especially useful in the car or at night when she struggles a bit to fall back to sleep.

We’ve had a tongue tie cut and she still feeds constantly! Even more so than before the cut. I think it’s just stages of growth spurts/ comfort etc not to do with the tongue tie. She can cluster feed all evening a lot of days! Think it’s totally normal unfortunately if EBF

It’s so hard not to compare your breast feeding journey to everyone else, I’ve been there. My little one is 8 weeks. His feeds change daily, some days ever hour, some 2/3 hours. He’s just started sleeping about 4.5/5 hours solid through the night. We’ve also transitioned him from his Moses basket to next to me. We have found out he’s got a tongue tie which may or may not change his feeds, waiting for an appointment. I’m also the same with pumping, some days he feeds so much that I get nothing. My local feeding team have said if I want to pump to store for my partner to help, to pump at the same time each day. You are doing an amazing job, keep going 😊
