Babies first shoes (uk)

People’s options on baby shoes… (very keen on barefoot shoes) We went to Clark’s and they recommended pre-walkers for my little one who is walking around furniture and will walk when his hands are held, but not independently walking yet. I noticed the shoes were extremely hard and didn’t seem to have much flexibility in them. We went to John Lewis and Startite brand was extremely different that I could bend the shoe in half and a lot softer. I’m so undecided on if we should get him a little pair to wear around the house/ outdoors or wait until he’s fully walking…. What have people done or suggest to do?

We have 2 different sets. One for home and the outdoor ones have more support, not only on the soles but ankles as well. Loads of people recommend the sock shoes, basically socks with soles but my LO struggled with them .. he does have hyper mobility so maybe because of that.

Depends what flooring you have, if its mostly carpet I dont see the problem. If you have tiling or wooden maybe some grippy socks or something just to aid them but then I wouldnt think its necessary as they can grip with their toes

@Hannah we’ve got wooden flooring throughout and carpets in the bedrooms. My little one has worn grippy socks for a few months now

We went from barefoot/socks to a pair of shoes not pre-walkers with both kids. My second we got bobux one. He figured out the walking in them pretty quickly so it would have been waste to buy pre-walkers as the lady in shop was saying.

We will be using inch blue and dotty fish shoes when he's ready for them. Really soft soles, much more flexible than anything on the high street. No need for shoes at home at all, save them for outside

There are a few types of pre-walkers in clarks, make sure it’s the softest one you were looking at. I only got them when he was a confident walker, as I wanted him to be able to walk outside. When trying them on after a few steps he was walking great in them. But they do have thicker soles so imo I would say grip socks for indoors and only shoes for outdoors if possible like if he is going to be exploring the garden etc :)

If you like barefoot don't buy from Clarks, their shoes are really tight on the toes. Take a look to barefootbritofficial on Instagram

I got the pre walker for my daughter from Clark’s when she was at this stage and it’s the only shoes that she doesn’t remove which I assume she is comfy in it …. We need to upgrade now as she is fully walking now

We've waited until he's walking to buy him pre-walkers and we've only bought them so he has something to wear on the park. At home and at nursery and pretty much everywhere else he's still shoeless whilst he's gaining his confidence. Once he's walking really confidently and no longer like a little drunk man we'll get him some shoes.
