Back pain

Hi, I am experiencing bad back aches and really struggling to sleep with the discomfort. I am 17 weeks and I didn’t think this would start until later on in pregnancy. I’ve tried pregnancy pillows but they just don’t seem to help. Does anyone have any more suggestion please?

I don’t have any suggestions unfortunately but just to let you know you’re not alone! I’m 18 weeks and have been suffering with bad back pains and pain in my ribs since week 16. It’s so hard to sleep as I can’t sleep on my left side at all! I did see a doctor but all they suggested was paracetamol and a hot water bottle. Hope your pains get better soon!

I’m 19+1 but my backs been getting progressively worse since hitting the second trimester. I mentioned it at my 16 week midwife appointment and I was referred to the physio’s and diagnosed with PGP. They gave me a few good exercises and I’m wearing a tubular bandage throughout the day which provides some support. Sleeping with a pillow between my legs is the only way I can get slightly comfortable. Might be worth trying to get a physio referral for some advice. None of the things they’ve advised have magically cured me but it’s definitely helping and I’m at least hoping it slows down the decline of my back x

I am 20+3 and suffering terribly with lower back pain. Sometimes it takes my breath away when I bend down. And it has become super clicky. You are not alone!

Hot water bottle and heat pads.. other than that, maybe speak to your midwife about being referred to a physiotherapist. I'm almost 20 weeks, and the back pain has been the worst with my second. I've had my body pillow out since I turned 10 weeks.. with my first I only needed it during the last couple of weeks of pregnancy

The same happened to me but it affected me more in the day. I bought an exercise ball and found a really good YouTube video (search for second trimester birth ball exercises). The channel is called pregnancy and post partum TV. There are probably good stretching videos you can do without a ball too. https://youtu.be/AERzKViXfMM?si=dodunREtGV438TLy

Pregnancy yoga

Some strengthening of your supportive muscles should help - regular yoga and pilates. start light though and build up.

A warm bath before bed has really helped me too!
