Emergency c section/ planned c section

Hi, So I had emergency c section 2 years ago and was put to sleep for it. This was quite scary for both husband and I. I'm now pregnant again. I could try for natural birth. But neither me or husband want to try. We have so many scars from the emergency c section. We are both pretty scared, happy, but scared that I'm pregnant. We want a planned c section. Please help reassure me that it's going to be better xx

Emergency c section for first here! And then I had an elective for my second. I wasn’t put to sleep for my first but it was scary as I became very unwell and was in hospital for a long time after. I was very scared about a second c section BUT…. What an amazing experience. It was completely different and a very calming atmosphere. I was able to talk to everyone in theatre and actually enjoy having my baby x

Planned vs emergency is so different. Less stress less scary, can definitely have better recovery plans in place.

Hi!!! The exact same thing happened to me!! I had my daughter two years ago and ended up having an emergency c section. I had my second this past November and I also elected to have a c section. For me it felt much more calmer and controlled. The surgery was quick and smooth.

Emergency for my first and planned for my second - the experience was night & day!! Absolutely loved my second birth. It was relaxed and quite quick. No issues at all

I've only had a planned c-section, but planned is much better than emergency. For my c-section, I was given a day and time to come in. Just before we went in, I was given a gown to change into, I had 1 nurse the whole time with me, she went through all their questions, my questions, and was super reassuring (I have a surgical phobia from childhood trauma). The whole thing took 45 minutes total from start to end. They put an IV in my arm right before we went in, the nurse held me while they did the freezing and the spinal, then they laid me down and got me covered, brought in my husband and he sat by my head. I could feel no pain and very little pressure. They talked to me and told me when they were going to push baby boy out. Once he was out (15 minutes in), they brought my husband to him, and once they did their baby checks, they swaddled him and gave him to my husband, and brought him back around to my head and he held the baby to my cheeks for the rest of the 30 minutes, then we went to recovery then room

Had an emergency one (also put to sleep) and then an elective! My elective was so calm and such a great experience

Thank you so much ladies. For all this xx

Emergency c section is so scary! Felt like I was in the movies and cried the whole way through. Mainly because it’s all associated with negativity, a rush to get cut open because of any complications so it’s always in the back of your mind. Planned would be so much calmer and I haven’t even experienced it, but from what I hear from others it’s so much better!

It's so much better with a planned than an emergency. My epidural failed during my emergency csection, that caused me a lot of trauma. My planned csections, with a spinal, went so smoothly. Even this last one in August that we had to move up 5 days because I went into labor. It's still nerve wracking but they truly do go so smoothly.

Emergency section with my first too.. got to 8cm but then started bleeding so had to be blue lighted to hospital from birthing centre.. it was traumatic hence why with my second I'm having an elective (07/02/25 🎊).. I'm nervous but I'm glad I don't have to experience the horrendous experience I had the first time. I've heard good things about electives

Haven’t had a second (yet) but went through the same as you, had to be put to sleep for c section and the trauma surrounding it was absolutely devastating! If I have another, an elective will be recommended due to previous experience and I am kind of looking forward to being in control more (if I have another that is 😂) No advice I’m sorry but I completely understand what you have been through x

I had an emergency C-section June 2022 with my daughter and had to be put to sleep as well due to me not being properly sedated. I had my second daughter December 5th. We were trying to go with a vbac but we made it to 41 weeks with no signs of labor so we did a elective C-section and my experience with this one was so much more positive and didn’t feel a thing. I was so worried because of my previous experience but it was nothing like that and feel like my recovery was easier as well because I already knew what to do

Mine was FABULOUS

Just curious but was there a reason you were put to sleep? I’m facing a section because of baby position and that’s one thing I’m worried about it being put to sleep and missing the birth xx

@Hayley mine was failed spinal twice and with it being a category 1 emergency they had no time to try again with spinal, had to get him out asap. Shouldn’t happen with elective as it’s not rushed/ not an emergency x
