How long until you feel better after antidepressants?

I've been taking sertraline for 2 weeks and the last few days I've felt really awful. I have really bad diarrhoea and feel so tired and nauseous. I just want to feel better. Baby is 18 months

Took about 4 weeks exactly for me to have more energy and motivation

It takes 4-6 weeks for antidepressants to kick in usually is what my psychiatrist has always told me. It takes me generally about 4 weeks to notice positive effects

I think it varies, for me personally setraline didn't work. The only thing it did for me was make me not care...like literally about anything. Just completely numb. And it took about 4-6 weeks to get there. I gave it a good 3 months of trying and then weaned myself off it and got a new therapist, but this was also like 2008 when I was fresh outta high school

@Kelsey thanks for your insight Kelsey. I'm not too sure about it either but will give it 4 weeks. I was crying all the time before taking it and now I do just feel low and worried I'll just be numb. I feel like I'm failing as a mum and really miss being on maternity leave

About a month. I tried several medications before I landed on sertraline! So don’t be afraid to try a different one if needed

Def give it some time, and just remember, the fact that your working on yourself and doing your best to improve means you're most definitely NOT failing! We are always our own worst critics. But if your best friend was going through what you are, would you see them as a failure, or a success for taking the steps they need to?

Have you had dna testing done to see what medications will work for your body? If not amd you can afford to do it i personally recommend it. I was on Lexapro and never should have been put on it, but there were other meds like zoloft that I could be on and worked so much better.

@Heather what kind of DNA testing is this please?

The one I did through my last psychiatrist was called genesight. It looks specifically at the common medications and can tell you which ones will work with your body and which ones you shouldn't be put on.

@Heather that's really interesting, thank you. I'll take a look at that!

Idk but I’m on the same time line 2 weeks and it’s just not working I have no motivation for anything this is awful.

I think probably 4 weeks for side effects to go. It doesn't make you numb, it's not that strong tbh.

Sertra is really good for anxiety and OCD. If it's not working for depression after 4 weeks, try another med.
